Bray (sometimes Bray-on-Thames) is a village in Berkshire, on the banks of the River Thames.
Bray is home to two restaurants with three Michelin stars: The Fat Duck, which was adjudged the best restaurant in the world by Restaurant magazine in 2005, and The Waterside Inn, which ranked 19 in Restaurant's list.
Bray won the Small Village award in the 2005 Britain in Bloom awards.

Monkey Island is a small island in the River Thames near the village of Bray, Berkshire, England.
By the 14th Century, Monkey Island had passed to the Canonesses of Burnham Abbey, a mile to the North, and in the Bray Court Rolls of 1361, the island is called Bournhames Eyte.
After the Great Fire of London in 1666, Berkshire stone was shipped down-stream in barges for re-building of the City.

Possibly the most haunted pub in Britain, this 400-year-old village inn, just three miles from Henley, has several resident ghosts, including a tall man wearing a large fl hat and a long fl cloak and a woman whose cries for her child have been known to awaken guests.
The beer quality is not as good as the pubs in the village but the food is outstanding and with a good wine list, the Fish is certainly worth a visit.

The church is littered with numerous other interesting monuments, including the brass of a fifteenth century judge (with lost wife) and the beautiful demi-figures of William Goddard and his wife, who founded the Jesus Hospital in 1609.
This was built to house thirty-four of the aged poor of Bray and six of the fishmonger’s company to which he belonged.
The ballad indicates he was Francis Carswell (Vicar 1650-1709), but the story was recorded of the rector through the turbulent Tudor years as early as 1662.

It's the whole Tudor inn kit and kaboodle, with mind-your-head ceilings, sturdy oak bar, handsome wooden panelling, exposed beams, leather porters' chairs, parquet flooring, a line of good beer on tap (IPA, Abbots, etc), and a scattering of locals who look as if they were born standing at the bar.
Mind you, locals in Bray are a far cry from yokels.
Go through to the main dining-room, and you'll find your fair share of tweedy gents with walking sticks, looking in dismay at a raucous group of Londoners who are bubblier than the fizz they're pouring down their necks.
