		For Brazil, the success of Mercosul both in the political (the affirmation of democracy) and in the commercial areas (Mercosul can already boast a good name in trade and investment) represents a greater projection of South America in the international context and a reinforcement of the country's specific influence on nations as a whole.

		The surveys of the Regional Division of IBGE began in 1941 under the coordination of Prof.
		The main purpose of his work was to systematically dispose the various "regional divisions" which have been proposed, in such a way that a unique Regional Division for Brazil could be organized to publish the Brazilian statistics.
		Following these works, the first Division of Brazil in regions, that is: North, Northeast, East, South and Central West was approved, on January, 31, 1942, through Circular number 1 of the Presidency of the Republic.

		The Brazil's Northeast region is caracterized to be arid for relatively long period of times in the interior of the continent, with the coast and in the southern region of having a more humid climate.
		Nordeste is the poorest region of Brazil, with the worst HDI rates of the country, mainly in the rural areas, which suffer from long periods without rain.
		In contrast to the situation occurring in the other Brazilian regions where social problems are worse in bigger cities, social problems in the Northeast regions are worse in the rural and small comunnities of the interior, lessening in bigger cities near the coast.

		Brazil has not ratified the 1993 Hague Convention yet, and has no bilateral cooperation agreements with other countries either.
		The criteria used to determine whether the disappearance of a child should be reported at national, regional or international level depend on the circumstances of each case.
