The Brazilian Space Agency (Agência Espacial Brasileira) is the civilian authority in Brazil that is in charge of the country's burgeoning space programme.
The first successful rocket was launched on October 23, 2004; it was a VSV-30, or Brazilian Exploration Vehicle, launched on a sub-orbital mission.
Because of pressure from the United States over the possible military application of its space program, the program was transferred into civilian control on 10 February 1994.
