  cars - Brazilian funky
Funky is a popular form of music in Brazil that has its roots in Miami Bass style rap music.
Funky has its origins in the Favela culture of Rio De Janeiro.
Much like rap and hip hop culture is wildly popular yet feared in the United States, Funky is viewed as a overly loud, aggressive, sociopathic form of music by many of brazilian elite...

Dusty Groove America - Brazil CD (M-Z and Various)
The sound is breezy and jazzy -- kind of a variant on styles forged in the Brazilian jazz scene of the 70s and 80s, with the same sort of fluttery, floating use of the guitar -- all of which makes for a really sweet sound to the set.
The sound is sort of bossa-baroque, with that emotive tone that Maysa brought to her vocals, and which established her as a bridge between older Brazilian styles of singing, and some of the flatter ones used during the bossa era.
Brazilian tunes include versions of "Constant Rain", "Cinnamon & Clove", "Bim Bom", and "Wave" -- and there's also a few nice English numbers, like their hit version of "Night & Day", and a great reading of "Watch What Happens".

Nobit: Brazilian music, ever since the bossa nova came up, has its place in the international music, and I think this is not going to change so soon.
In the seventies brazilian musicians influenced by funk and soul music mixed it with samba and samba-funk is one of the hottest mixture ever heared.
But Brazilian music has as well other sides, that are missing (for my personal taste) in pure electronic music: there is on the one side the softness, delicacy and smoothness and on the other hand a great harmonic richness.

Brazilian Music in New York: THE BRAZILIAN MUSE
Brazilians tell me how great my Portuguese is but I always feel out of practice, as I don't speak it nearly often enough (and singing along to a song you know by heart just isn't the same as having a conversation).
I love that Brazilians are always so encouraging to foreigners who make any attempt at their language, but that very encouragement is what gives me doubt--my pessimistic side tells me that I'm not as proficient as they say, they're just easily pleased with any effort whatsoever.
The way the Brazilians danced samba made it seem natural and fun; a way to "play" along with the music you were listening to.

He does get funky on a couple of numbers, but on the whole this is not a very rhythmic album.

With its favelas, gangsters, multiracial cities and love of all things funky, what is surprising is not how big hip hop is in Brazil but how long it has taken to get the attention it deserves within the country and, latterly, outside its national borders.
