Brazilian real - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The real (plural réis) was the currency used by the first Portuguese settlers to arrive in the then New World, but the first official money to circulate bearing the name "real" was actually printed in 1654 by the Dutch, during their occupation of part of the Brazilian Northeast.
The real was affected by inflation during its long lifespan and the base currency unit shifted from one real to mil réis (one thousand réis) and to one conto de réis (one million réis) in the final years of the República Velha era.
The real (plural reais) was implemented on 1 July 1994, during the presidency of Itamar Franco, when Fernando Henrique Cardoso was the Minister of Finances, as part of a broader plan to stabilize the Brazilian economy, known as Plano Real, substituting the short-lived cruzeiro real.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu assumes that your opponent will be far more powerful than you; and unlike traditional Japanese Jujutsu, it recognizes that once the opponent falls to the ground, the fight has just begun.
The primary objective of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor is to "finish the fight" by submitting his opponent with either a joint lock or strangulation hold.
In the real world, you will either be surrounded and assaulted all at once, or tackled and brought to the ground, where your assailants will continue to punch and kick you while you lay trapped.

 Brazil's Economic Crisis
Brazilians would not, if all went according to plan, suffer the neocolonizing impact of collapsing capital asset prices, institutional desperation for dollars (particularly by those firms holding dollar denominated debt), and the humiliation of watching foreigners, particularly Americans, cherry picking the best assets the country has to offer at fire sale prices.
However, this is only true if those who buy the depressed Brazilian bonds or put their money in Brazilian savings accounts can feel reasonably certain that the dollar value of their savings will not be eroded by a devaluation and the financial solvency of institutions invested in will not become questionable.
The Brazilian government could either abandon any attempt to control the exchange rate and, therefore, stop frittering away the Central Bank's dollar reserves trying to keep the real within its targeted trading band or the government could simply fix the exchange rate in a manner that does not require managing the real.

Argentine officials said the Brazilian unit is 26% cheaper than the Argentine peso in inflation-adjusted terms compared with the average rate for the Brazilian real during the 1996-1998 period, and at the lowest level compared with the peso since at least 1986.
This week the Brazilian unit, which was devalued in January and left to float freely against the dollar, slid further against the U.S. currency, prompting central-bank intervention for the first time in three months.
