Brazoria County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas located on the Gulf Coast within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown Metropolitan Area.
In 1832, Brazoria was organized as a separate municipal district by the Mexican government, and so became one of Texas original counties at independence in 1836.
Brazoria County constitutes the southern tip of the Cancer Coast, so named by doctors at the Texas Medical Center in Houston and members of the local media.

Brazoria County (G-18), on the prairie of the Gulf Coast at the mouth of the Brazos River in Southeast Texas, is bordered by Matagorda, Fort Bend, Harris, and Galveston counties.
The establishment of Fort Bend County in 1837 and of Galveston County in 1838 drew the present county boundaries, and the towns of Columbia, Velasco, and Brazoria were incorporated by the Congress of the republic in 1837.
Brazoria County's first school was established in 1827, Brazoria Academy in 1839, Alvin Normal School in 1890, and the University of South Texas in 1897.

In the winter of 1834 (one source says March 1, 1835) the first Texas Masonic Lodge was organized beneath the branches of this Live Oak.
After organizing, a petition was sent to the Louisiana Grand Lodge and the Texas Grand Lodge was granted soon after with Anson Jones as the first Grand Master.
I believe I have heard that some people were buried in the area of the Masonic Oak but that is not the Old Brazoria Cemetery.

     In July 2000, a channeled applesnail population was confirmed by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department personnel (TPW) in the American Canal, Brazoria and Galveston counties, between Houston and Alvin in southeastern Texas.
