The Brazos River is the largest river between the Rio Grande and the Red River has a total length of about 840 miles from the source of its longest fork.
The main stream of the Brazos River is formed in northeastern Stonewall County by the confluence of the Salt and Double Mountain Forks.
Generally the river is extremely wide and scenic with heavily vegetated banks consisting of elm, willow, oak, and cedar, along with spectacular outcroppings of rock, high bluffs, and views of the Palo Pinto Mountains.

LCRA and Brazos, which formed the alliance in 1995 to find regional solutions to providing water and wastewater service to a burgeoning Williamson County population, each contributed $10,000 for the feasibility study.

The Brazos has never been one of my personal favorite rivers because of previous experiences with low water and a fierce southwest wind that blows you back upstream (literally) whenever you stop paddling, if you can find water deep enough to paddle.
At 4,000 cfs, the Brazos is actually a fun trip, and the cool water from the bottom of Lake Whitney is quite refreshing in 100+ degree temperatures.
The last Brazos trip photos shown are from the March 24-25, 2001 canoe camping trip at Cleburne State Park, where we canoed the Brazos River and Cedar Lake.
