 | | “Breaking Away” is a sweet, warm, thoughtful, lightly comic look at small-town youths on the brink of adulthood, a refreshing, coming-of-age teen movie that doesn’t insult our intelligence or embarrass us with grossness but relies on charm and humor for its insights. |
 | | “Breaking Away” is a part of Fox’s first round of “Family Features” on DVD that also includes “The Sandlot,” “My Bodyguard,” “Rookie of the Year,” and “Baby’s Day Out.” For my money, “Breaking Away” is far and away the best and most inspirational of the pack (although “The Sandlot” is not all that far behind). |
 | | There are two TV spots and a well-worn theatrical trailer for “Breaking Away,” plus trailers for each of the other Fox “Family Features” mentioned at the outset; and that’s about all. |
