Breaking pitches spin, which results from applying finger pressure to the ball and snapping your wrist when releasing it.
Looking at specific breaking pitches, the 2-seam fastball, also called a moving or sinking fastball, is gripped on top of the ball with the narrow seams exposed.
Conversely, a lefthand pitcher's natural wrist rotation (which is counterclockwise) causes the ball to curve left to right–that is, into a righthand batter and away from a lefthander.

Ball lighting is still baffling, scientists admit in a new report.
One describes how a luminous ball left a hole the size of a basketball in a screen door as it entered a house in Oregon, then navigated down to the basement and wrecked an old mangle.
Ball lightning is probably the product of a family of different processes.

The more breaking balls a pitcher throws at a young age, the more miles per hour it’s going to take off his fastball as he gets older.
The concept of the breaking ball is good, because if a pitcher gets it, he can grow with the concept as he gets older.
I can’t go any further.” If you hold the ball on him, he might land on his heels and get off the balls of his feet and go back—all of this just because you were simply holding the ball.

As the ball spins, the air closest to the ball moves along with it.
The ball is then pushed to one side by the uneven pressure as it moves forward.
The greater the spin, the greater the deferential in pressure and the greater the break.

The slider is thrown by gripping the ball with the seams.
The curve ball can be thrown using the same two-finger grip as a slider, but with more equal pressure on the ball with both fingers and thumb.
The stride for the curve ball is usually shortened over that of the fast ball delivery in order to generate more downward motion of the arm.

 Our take...
Because a baseball is relatively large relative to air molecules it is imperfectly aerodynamic: air tends to separate on the upstream side of the ball and recombine on the downstream.
This means that, for a nonspinning ball moving forward through the air, a high pressure zone is created on the upstream and a low pressure one on the downstream.
The trick to throwing a breaking pitch is to throw the ball and set it spinning at the same time.

The PuttingZone - A Slo-Mo Read for Seeing Enough Break
A fast ball and a slow ball moving along the same line on a tilted surface have identical tugs from gravity downhill but it's sort of like both balls have their steering wheels turned downhill to the same degree.
From here, the task is very direct: send the ball to that breakpoint with the right speed that the ball connects with and follows this final entry pathway and rattles home.
When faced with a breaking putt (with the surface otherwise generally flat), imagine a putt straight at the hole with just-get-there speed and visualize how far down the amateur side the ball would curl.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking in physics takes place when asystem that is symmetric with respect to some Lie group goes into a vacuum state that is not symmetric. At this point the system no longer appears to behave in a symmetric manner.
In the Standard Model, spontaneous symmetry breaking is accomplishedby using the Higgs boson and is responsible for the masses of the W and Z bosons.
The symmetry breaking concept is certainly not restricted to the framework ofexplanation used above.

The knee buckling doesn't happen because the ball is curving, it happens because the batter was fooled.
In order to make the ball go "backwards" a great deal, the arm is forced into twisting that puts far more stress on the shoulder and elbow than any other pitch.
A curve doesn't necessarily mean the ball curves horizontally which is what most people think, it really describes a pitch thrown with a much higher rate of spin than other pitches a pitcher might throw.

A Slo-Mo Read for Seeing Enough Break
For this reason, putts seldom break much in the first two-thirds or so of the putt because the ball is then moving too fast to curl too far off line.
And on breaking putts, the back lip is always lower a bit than the entry lip, so the ball needs even more time for dropping than it would on a level putt.
To take a simple case, imagine a flat green that is medium fast (so a test ball rolls about 7.5 to 8 feet off the Stimpmeter), with a tilt of 3 percent right down to left with an axis of tilt that parallels a direct line from the ball to the hole.

I'll guarantee you that he never, and I mean never, threw a ball more than 55 until he was 13 years old and he never threw more and 3 or 4 curves in a game and they were dinky, nickel curves.
If you look closely at most of the kids who throw a curve at that age, it isn't really curving as much as the pitcher is slowing up his arm and lobbing the ball, taking so much speed off of it that it looks like a curve.
If the kid is throwing a curve that really curves, I'll bet that he can't get the ball in the strike zone more than 25% of the time and I'll win that bet 90% of the time.

The fastball is the most common pitch in baseball, and almost all pitchers use some form of a fastball from time to time.
The goal is usually to make the ball difficult to hit well or confusing to batters.
The changeup is the staple off-speed pitch, usually thrown to look like a fastball but arriving much slower to the plate.

The researchers propose that a player needs to keep two angles in mind: the vertical elevation of the ball and the angle (relative to his initial sighting of the ball) through which his gaze must shift horizontally to track the ball's trajectory.
They found that when the optimum path to a fly ball is followed, the former angle increases at a variable rate, slowing over time, whereas the latter angle increases at a constant rate.
In addition, the researchers determined that "the optimally hit curveball will travel farther than both the fastball and knuckleball, because of beneficial topspin on the pitched curve ball that is enhanced during impact with the bat." To boost this enhancement, Hubbard notes, a player should hit a ball a bit below its center.
