 Encyclopedia: Donald J. Cram
Cram expanded upon Charles Pedersen 's ground-breaking synthesis of the crown ethers, basically two-dimensional organic compounds that are able to recognize and selectively combine with the ions of certain metal elements.
Donald James Cram ( April 22, 1919 - June 17, 2001) was an American chemist who shared the 1987 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for synthesizing three-dimensional molecules that could mimic the functioning of natural molecules.
Cram synthesized molecules that took this chemistry into three dimensions, creating an array of differently shaped molecules that could interact selectively with other chemicals because of their complementary three-dimensional structures.

 Environmental Health & Safety
To inhibit the formation of peroxides in ethers, ethers should be kept in tightly sealed cans or amber glass bottles (since light promotes peroxide formation).
Most of these substances may be safely stored for 12 months or less after breaking the seal on a new container.
Examples of this type of substance include diethyl ether and secondary alcohols, in which significant quantities of explosive organic peroxides are formed on long-term contact with air.

 SINGLES
Breaking The Ethers features a Mike McCready guest appearance playing guitar on "The Getaway," on this all-instrumental album by Tuatara, a collaboration of friends coming together to express a wide variety of influences.
Mike McCready is playing guitar on The Day Brings and the magic touch of Brendan O'Brien and Nick DiDia have us oohin' and ahhhin'.
All we can say is that if Neil didn't, Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready sure did with an incredible version of BOB DYLAN'S, "Masters of War" done with a passion the subject deserves.

 CMT.com : Mike McCready : Biography
McCready's bluesy playing can also be spotted on releases by Brad (Interiors), Mark Eitzel (West), Screaming Trees (Dust), Tuatara (Breaking the Ethers), Neil Young (Mirror Ball), as well as a must-hear cover of the uncommon Jimi Hendrix track "Hey Baby" (for the Hendrix tribute album Stone Free).
McCready also took part alongside his new bandmembers in the Chris Cornell-led tribute to Wood, Temple of the Dog, whose debut album was issued in the summer of 1991, just a few months before the release of Pearl Jam's debut, Ten.
Mike McCready helped shift the majority of rock fans' attention away from technically demanding shredders to more feel-oriented and rootsy players.

Tuatara's eclectic jams form organized chaos
Tuatara played the Gallery Theatre in support of their new instrumental, jazz-influenced album, "Breaking the Ethers." (l- r) Barrett Martin, Skerik, Justin Harwood, and Peter Buck.
Tuatara is also the backup band on his solo debut, "West," which Buck co-wrote and produced.
His melancholy was a great contrast to the high-voltage jams of Tuatara, as the intimacy of his voice was to their instrumental soundscapes.

 Tuatara: Cinemathique: Pitchfork Review
Actually, the wait was technically over around 1996 when this here band Tuatara formed and recorded their first album, but everyone pretty much forgot about them about two months after Breaking the Ethers was released straight to cut-out bin.
And counted among the lofty ranks of Tuatara is a fairly stellar group of individuals in terms of name recognition.
Tuatara offer a proficient exotica vibe, a decent 70s-style cop show car chase theme, a funky porn-style number, and even a bit of Gamelan.

Sweet 75 : Sweet 75 - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Helium - No Guitars EP; Helium - Magic City; Hole - The First Session; Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape; Tuatara - Breaking the Ethers;
Furthermore, Sweet 75 sounds clueless when it takes a detour into cocktail music, or when they sing the puzzling country parody "Ode to Dolly." Those moments, as well as the adequate but tiring full-throttle punk rockers, detract from such whiplash fusions as "Fetch," which float between menacing jangle and muscular chords.
Songs like "Fetch," and the duo's excursions into Mexican-flavored rock, illustrate that Sweet 75 are at their best when they're blending genres, instead of dedicating themselves to one specific style, and those are the cuts that make Sweet 75 a promising debut.

Five Horizons: Old 1997 Pearl Jam News
Mike McCready played on exactly one track of the album ("The Getaway"), which was released April 1 on Epic and is entitled "Breaking the Ethers." McCready has not appeared at any of the shows, and is not likely to do so.
Apparently the album is more "hard rocking" than No Code, but we can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing, since we really happened to love that album; however, he does say that they're more along the lines of "Hail, Hail," which would be just fine with us.
But we do hope that this puts to rest that stupid rumor that PJ were going to be playing with Neil Young at the HORDE show in Portland on 7/13; not to mention the fact that Stone is playing in Cleveland with Brad the night before.
