Breath of Fire IV's storyline is one of its high points, and it is by far the best that the series has yet seen.
Breath of Fire IV's other major simplification is in its world map play, which, for better or worse, is the least involved yet seen in the series.

The transition turns out to be a relatively smooth one, as Breath of Fire III comfortably surpasses its 16-bit predecessors with its improved graphics, involved gameplay, and the strongest storyline that the series has seen so far.
Breath of Fire III is severely hurt by its slow gameplay, but enough of its elements come together well to make it a worthwhile RPG experience.

Breath of Fire IV is the latest in a series of role-playing games from Capcom, a company known more for fighters and survival-horror than RPGs.

Breath of Fire IV's plot is at the same time solid and standard, and such a notion is pretty descriptive of the game itself.

Once the Long Deep Breathing is done in the manner described, the focus on the muscles of the abdomen, chest and shoulder areas as being involved in the breathing begins to recede, as the natural bellows like motion of the entire diaphragm is felt.

Breath of Fire III for PlayStation Review - PlayStation Breath of Fire III Review
Breath of Fire III has all the standard RPG trappings: the "you hit me, now I hit you" combat engine, control over a multiple-character party, and a number of smaller quests you have to accomplish along the way to finishing the overall one.
But Breath of Fire III does bring a few fresh offerings to the table, such as its "examine" command, fishing minigame, masters' apprenticeship, and, most notably, its dragon gene system.
Graphically, Breath of Fire III straddles the line between 2D and 3D, with sprite-based graphics in an isometric 3D environment.

RPGFan Reviews - Breath of Fire II
BoF II has an awful translation, one filled with more grammatical errors than I could count, faulty dialogue from NPCs (one character gives you a hint where the player needs to go next—only it’s the wrong town), and an overall vagueness as to what you’re supposed to be doing next at any given point.
Breath of Fire II doesn’t bring anything majorly innovative to the table in this regard, but it does take all of the traditional turn-based battle elements and does them well.
Despite the problems, Breath of Fire II is still a good game—one that offers up more than 20 hours of solid role-playing action.

IGN: Breath of Fire IV Review
Breath of Fire IV Solid in every aspect but not flashy, Capcom's old-skool RPG delivers in subtle, traditional ways.
The plot has never been out of the ordinary (although a friend of mine claims Breath of Fire 2 is better than Final Fantasy VI any day), generally revolving around a group of heroes who must destroy an evil empire, defeat a goddess, or thwart another kind of dastardly villain.
This and Breath of Fire III are the only two of the series to appear on PlayStation, and they just get better and better.

 Breath of Fire - Re-Retroview
Going on, Breath of Fire was quite original when it first came out, what primarily with character fusion and the dragon system, although the game did borrow the day/night system, not to mention the name Dragon Lord, from the Dragon Warrior games.
When the original version of Breath of Fire came out, its graphics were well above the norm for a 16-bit RPG, what with animated battles and lush, vibrant colors, and the Gameboy Advance version keeps them intact for the most part, though a few decent anime stills were injected into the new port.
Overall, the first Breath of Fire, despite its flaws, was a decent start for the franchise, and the second-best installment in my opinion, next to the fourth.
