Topic: Breck Eisner

Michael Eisner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eisner's role in this turnaround, and Disney's growth into one of the leading media firms, is the subject of passionate debate by many historians and Disney fans, though he is generally given the bulk of the credit for transforming Disney into a provider of entertainment.
On September 30, Eisner resigned both as an executive and as a member of the board of directors, and, severing all formal ties with the company, he waived his contractual rights to perks such as the use of a corporate jet and an office at the company's Burbank headquarters.
All this is in spite of the fact that Eisner was the largest shareholder at Disney [1], until the terms of the Pixar acquisition deal resulted in Steve Jobs holding that distinction.

Director Breck Eisner arrives at Paramount Pictures premiere of "SAHARA" at the Grauman's Chinese Theater on April 4, 2005 in Hollywood, California.
Eisner, who had helped to develop the adaptation of Cussler's novel with producers Howard and Karen Baldwin, actually stepped away from "Sahara" when he felt he didn't have enough experience to work on a project of this scope.
Young-looking at 34 and with a quick sense of humor, Eisner concedes that "you have to be driven to make a film like this." Driven, not foolhardy, adds the director, who says he never felt overwhelmed, out of control or in over his head.

Eisner is the son of outgoing Disney CEO Michael Eisner, one of the most powerful people in Hollywood, so getting Daddy to install him as the director of a high-profile popcorn flick probably wasn't that hard.
But Eisner's place as the likely underqualified director is a symptom that underscores the larger disease here: No one seems to know what they're doing, or worse, much care.
Eisner is clearly going for a swashbuckling, lighthearted adventure approach, but the script is so leaden that it all falls flat.

Paramount's Sahara, directed by Breck Eisner and starring Matthew McConaughey, is an old-fashioned adventure thriller in which heroic characters, lost and desperate under a brutal desert sun, manage to maintain a charming sense of humor.

As directed by Michael Eisner's son Breck, in his feature film debut, what quickly becomes clear in "Sahara" is that Eisner may have left his screenwriters out in the sun too long.
In spite of its long running time and shaky plot points, sometimes "Sahara" is fun, particularly at the end, when Eisner embraces the absurdity of what he has created and cuts loose.
Some might argue that those scenes are Eisner tipping his hat to Spielberg, but if that's the case, others will argue that he never should have tossed that hat into the ring.
