Breed - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A breed is a domesticated subspecies or infrasubspecies of an animal.
A breed is not completely analogous to the equivalent term for domesticated plants, which is a cultivar.
A breed should also be distinguished from a strain, which is simply the descendants of a single significant individual, and which in domesticated animals is also known as a bloodline.

Breed’s back story starts in 2610 during the height of a war between humans and an alien machine-suited race called the Breed.
The Breed, however, have a surprise for the human race: the battle that has drawn away the planet’s best defenses is a ruse.
The single largest similarity between Breed and Halo is that Breed boasts a jeep with a back-mounted Vulcan cannon that could be construed as a copy of the beloved Warthog from Halo.

 Dog Owner's Guide: Breed Selection
Before making a final decision on a breed, visit a couple of breeders and, if possible, a dog show to see puppies and adults of the breeds you are considering and talk to several breeders (long before or a bit after they go into the ring) about the advantages and disadvantages of the breed.
Several of these breeds are jacks of many trades; the Sammy was born as a bed-warmer, sledge-hauler, and reindeer herder; the Newf as a sea-going rescue dog as well as a cart-pulling draft dog; the Rottweiler as a cattle drover and farmer's protector; and Akitas as palace guards and big game hunters.
A working breed that is not socialized as a puppy and young adult can easily become a domineering pet prone to jumping on people and furniture, growling at children and unconfident adults, and refusing to come when called or lie down on command.

When breeds are singled out as dangerous or vicious, responsibility is removed from the dog owner which is where it belongs.

Its origins as a "working" cat are still strongly seen in the breed, and any Manx which lives an outdoor or outdoor/indoor life is a fierce, dedicated hunter.
Manx, unlike many breeds, may be shown for years - as long as they are willing to go and enjoy it, as a matter of fact.
Unless you plan to breed your cat (and the only reason to do that would be if you have a top show-cat with excellent genes to pass on, and you intend to become a breeder yourself), it would be best to spay or neuter and show in the premier classes altogether.

Another disadvantage of mixed breed dogs is the inability to predict the size, coat-type, or temperament of the adult dog from seeing a litter of puppies from an unknown sire or worse, from an unknown dam and sire.
And mixed breed dogs are akin to genetic stew in which one bowl contains lots of carrots and celery, a bit of meat, a couple of pieces of potato, and a small onion, and the next bowl is scarce on carrots, light on onions, and but heavy on meat, potatoes and celery.

 Common Misconceptions About Breed Rescue
For very popular breeds, there may be three or four "hard core" rescuers (those involved in rescue on a daily or weekly basis) and a handful of others who get involved on occasion, to transport or foster dogs as they come in.
We do this because we love the breeds we are associated with, and because we would rather take the financial loss than see one of our breed suffer in an unhappy home, or be killed in a shelter because no one came to adopt them.
Breed rescue will give anyone a pair of intact dogs to start their own kennel, so they can breed puppies and sell them.

 PBRC - Breed Information
The typical pit bulldog is a unique and wonderful animal, but, like the majority of working breeds, he is not the type of dog you should get if you are looking for a pet to take to the dog park or to the lake on Saturday afternoons.
People who truly love the breed DO NOT have dogs which contribute to the current overpopulation problem, DO NOT allow their dogs to get out "even once" and cause problems in the neighborhood, and DO NOT dump (get rid of) their dogs when their living situation changes.
It is important however, to understand the breed's nature, to provide a structured environment, and to establish a positive leadership role.

In response to the concerns and desires of mixed breed dog owners a petition is being circulated to encourage the AKC to modify its policies.
