Method of encouraging registration of animals with a breed registry - Patent 6582231
Breed registries have been established to maintain the purity of breeds and to maintain genealogical information on breeds to permit documentation of the lineage of an animal.
In the litter application, the breeder identifies the breed, the number of puppies in the litter, the number of males and the number of females in the litter, the registered name and registration number of the sire and dam, and identifying information for the owner or lessee of the sire or dam.
The registry similarly works with governmental agencies or animal welfare organizations or entities regulating medical testing to have them encourage or require entities such as testing laboratories to scan animals purchased for medical experiments and to check with the registry to verify that the animal has not been reported as stolen to the registry.

Breed club - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A breed club, in the hobby of dog fancy, is an organization dedicated to breeding and showing of one single breed of dog as opposed to a diverse mixture of dogs.
These breed clubs leave the function of a registry to such major kennel clubs as the American Kennel Club, the United Kennel Club, and the like and exist more for social purposes, the dissemination of news about the breed, and in some instances the organization of single-breed shows.
This is usually because they believe that the common practices of the all-breed clubs, such as maintaining closed studbooks and awarding prizes based on appearance and conformation rather than on performance, don't serve to protect the working abilities of the dogs.

Breed registry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are also entities which refer to themselves as registries, but which are thinly-veiled marketing devices for vendors of puppies and adult dogs, as well as a means of collecting registration fees from novice dog owners unfamiliar with reputable registries and breed clubs.
The Registry on Merit or ROM may be tied to percentage of bloodline, conformation or classification or may be based solely on performance.
An example of a registry not associated with a breed or kennel club: the "Field Dog Stud Book" is a registry of field and hunting dogs that is maintained by a magazine publisher.

 Guidelines: Breed Registry Rules
It is the responsibility of anyone planning to register cattle of a specific breed to obtain complete details of all regulations pertaining to registration from the respective breed registry association.
One requirement common to all the dairy breed registry associations is that the blood type of a bull and his living unblood-typed parents be on file with the respective breed registry association.
If in the opinion of the breed registry organization there is a question of parentage as represented by the application for registry, the offspring in question must be blood typed with the dam and the results of blood typing by the designated laboratory in all matters of identification and parentage will be accepted as official.

 Rare Breeds
This is extremely detrimental to the future survival of any particular breed, and in most cases the parent club ends up applying for recognition to the FSS in order to maintain some semblance of credibility.
Many of the "under-development breeds" have not as yet reached a sufficient genepool expansion in order to meet the requirements for recognition within one of the major breed registries.
Therefore, for several of these new breeds, the breeders have established their own registries whereby data is collected until such time as sufficient entries qualify them to close their stud books and acquire full recognition.

In cases where the sire or dam either was not registered with their respective breeds registry, or is unknown, we offer on occasion under a "hardship clause" the consideration of possible registration for individual animals that meet certain criteria.
As with nearly every horse and pony breed, they originally were crosses of two or more different breeds, and were considered by most to be part breds in their early formative years.
Many owners and breeders have indicated they are not satisfied with the usual indifference of registries on their registration certificates, Stud Books, and pedigree databases, involving the other breed "outside breed" that is not directly related to the breed that particular registry represents.

Because pink skinned white horses are commonly called "albino" the Thompsons originally incorporated that name for their breed, but later it was changed to "American White" and "American Creme" by a vote of the IAAA Board of Directors.
The breed, as a whole, is known to be of good disposition and to be intelligent and willing when properly treated and trained.

About Dog Breed Registries - Canada's Guide to Dogs
The breed registries essentially handle the paperwork for keeping records and, though they do have rules and regulations that must be followed, they do not manage the breeders.
If the breed you are looking for is not recognized by any of these all-breed registries, then it is important to find out which registries do recognize the breed (quite often this will be from the breed's country of origin and/or a breed club) and which breed registries are used by ethical breeders.
If the dog breed you are interested in is not a recognized CKC, AKC or UKC breed, you need to find a breeder who is registering his dogs with the most reputable registry — single-breed or all-breed.
