The "Bremen" departed Bluff on the evening tide on January 11th bound for the Ross Sea and Ross Island with the intention of allowing passengers ashore at both McMurdo Base and Scott Base on the 23rd January.
On 22nd February, on the way back from South Georgia, the "Bremen" was hit by a rogue wave which smashed her bridge and left the vessel adrift without power for 24 hours before temporary repairs enabled her to limp into Buenos Aires escorted by the British antarctic ship "Ernest Shackleton".

Project number : - 11.1 Background: The HAZMAT Directive and its Impact on a Bremen Ship Agency
The HAZMAT Directive says that ship operators are obliged to report dangerous cargo on board of ships calling European ports to the Competent Authority in Member States.
The dangerous goods part of clearing a ship takes approximately 70% of the overall effort where the part of dangerous goods is only about 5% of the total cargo.
As in Bremen the export orders to the terminal operator are completely performed via EDP, the notification of exported dangerous cargo towards the port Authority will be automatically done by the Ports Community System dbh.

 Emigration to America: Passenger Lists
Legislation in 1874 dropped the requirement that customs collectors send copies of the ship lists to the Secretary of State, and the collectors were instructed instead to send only statistical reports on passenger arrivals to the Secretary of the Treasury.
Bremen was throughout the 19th century far more important than Hamburg as a port of emigration: indeed, in the 1840's and 1850's between two and three times as many emigrants sailed from Bremen as from Hamburg.
Contrary to what still appears occasionally in English-language genealogical publications, the Bremen ship lists for the 19th century were not destroyed during World War II, but, beginning in 1874, as a matter of government policy two years after they were created.
