Carriers were effective reconnaissance vehicles- they were small, only 5ft high and could traverse most types of terrain at up to 30mph.
The Cingoletta Fiat 2800 ("Breda carrier"?) was not adopted.
It is usually assumed that the Bren has been replaced by vehicles such as the APC and IFV, but it is worth remembering that Bren carriers were not originally intended for Mechanised units -they were intended as gun tractors and weapon crew carriers in normal infantry battalions.

Bren and Scout Carriers were upgraded during the war to the "universal" standard; many of these Carriers received "in the field" alterations which included the mounting of heavier machine guns like the American.30 in and.50 in Brownings.
Despite the fact that most Universal Carriers manufactured in/after 1943 were fitted with the Stacey Towing Attachment, for them to be able to tow the 6-pdr anti-tank gun over short distances, the Loyd Carrier was preferred by the troops for this job with its less complicated tiller operated steering.
The base plate was carried on the front of the Carrier on earlier models and on the rear later on.

 Bren Gun Carrier
There was only one version of this vehicle named the "Bren Gun Carrier" but whatever the task, the entire family of vehicles was known by its users as Bren Carriers.
Because of their general usefulness, Bren Gun Carriers were allocated to all types of Australian Army Units.
At the end of the War, the remaining Carriers were relegated to a training role and numbers of vehicles were allocated to Reserve (CMF) Forces to make up the balance of equipment needed by newly formed tank units.

Scottish Infantry of WWII also carried the small pack on the back, which had two "L" straps which buckled into the tops of the ammo pouches.
The issue tea mug was often carried strapped to the rear of the small pack.
There were two types of waterbottle carrier, one was skeletal (an open frame) and the other was a sleeve type (as shown in the photo above), which is commonly seen in photographs of Scottish soldiers in the 15th and 51st Divisions.

Carriers and Halftracks of the Motor Battalion are often seen in columns of Cromwell, Churchill and Sherman tanks as they are advancing in forward areas near to the front line.
Originally i wanted this carrier to tow the 6 pounder AT gun, but it doesn't look good.The AT gun is from the early 70's and it's crude structure does not match with the finer structure of the carrier., as you can see on the last pictures.

The popularity of the Bren Carrier led to a number of derivatives, and it was obviously uneconomic and wasteful of effort to build several near copies in small numbers.
This became the standrad carrier for the rest of the war, though in spite of its official title it remained the Bren carrier to almost everybody.
Tehy developed the 'Carrier T16', with a longer body and track and more powerful engine; over 2.600 were built, but somewhere the Americans ahd the got the sums wrong and the T16 could not carry as much payload as the standard Universal, nor was it as reliable, so that few were put to use.

The Gun Carrier is in excellent condition with hardly any signs of paint damage, and measures 2" wide x 3 1/2" long x 1 3/8" high.
The driver, measuring 1/2" wide x 3/4" high, is also in very good condition with just a couple of paint chips on his face, from rattling around in the box against the gun carrier.
Note that the crew and gun carrier were produced each in a different shade of green paint, which I have verified with a dealer who deals strictly in Britains.
