Gleeson bore an uncanny physical resemblance to Cahill which only added additional layers to his well-wrought characterization with Cahill emerging as a complex figure, at once charming and moral yet also capable of extreme brutality.
Gleeson displayed his impressive range as the titular "Sweety Barrett" (1998), an illiterate circus performer who runs afoul of a corrupt policeman.
Gleeson next appeared in Wolfgang Petersen’s “Troy” (2004), playing Menelaus, king of Sparta, whose wife, Helen (Diane Kruger), is kidnapped by Paris, the prince of Troy (Orlando Bloom).

I doubt Professor Brendan Drumm and his colleagues will suffer the same fate, but I do hope they stay the course and don’t let hysterical outbursts sway them from strategies that will work in the health service over the long term.

Boorman says his Cahill is a throwback to those Celtic chieftains of old who ruled by thievery and violence; as an anachronism, this charming, brutal bear of a man (perfectly incarnated by Brendan Gleeson) is undeniably reprehensible, but he stands in deliberate contrast to the institutionalized hypocrisy and corruption of church, state, and IRA alike.
Most of that particular task is accomplished by Brendan Gleason, who creates such a likeable character that when he nails one of his men to a snooker table to force a confession, we are inclined to overlook the act of violence.
Brendan Gleeson was so compelling in this role that I could'nt help but despise him throughout.
