On days when skies are grey, and pitches have some moisture in them, Julian’s natural swing bowling allied to the seaming qualities of the white ball could see him pose problems to the best batsmen.

A FORMER teammate of Adam Gilchrist has implored Cricket Australia to ensure two of its most precious assets, Gilchrist and Glenn McGrath, are at their best for this year's Ashes, even if it means sacrificing their ambition to play in three victorious World Cups.
Former fast bowler Brendon Julian, a friend and former West Australian and Australian teammate of the out-of-sorts wicketkeeper-batsman, said he expected Gilchrist to benefit greatly from an overdue week's rest granted by the national selectors, but that his workload must be managed better from here on.
Those close to Gilchrist say he still has a burning desire to play the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, is not showing alarming signs of fatigue and, as one of the game's great players, should be able to determine his own future.

Extraneous: Born in Wagga Wagga – like New York so good they named it twice – Slater's taste for the high life led him to buy a bright red Ferrari complete with personalised number plate to match his Australian Test cap number of 356, plus a tattoo to match.
Unfortunately he soon discovered that was actually Brendon Julian's number - they both made their debut in the same Test (when it is then decided alphabetically).
Happily, to save on a skin graft, the ACB let Slater keep his beloved number.
