Invitations to participate in the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme are making their way to residents of Brent and Harrow as part of the national programme to help detect bowel cancer at an early stage when treatment is more likely to be effective.
Brent and Harrow are the first two boroughs in London to take part in the national programme which first went live in July 2006.
The introduction of screening in Brent and Harrow is part of the roll out of the NHS Bowel Screening programme nationally.

A WEMBLEY market trader was fined £1,500 at Brent Magistrates Court on January 17 after he was caught with 435 pairs of fake branded jeans.
Brent and Harrow trading standards nabbed Mr Patel after checking his stall in a raid on Wembley market in December 2004, which netted £1.5 million's worth of counterfeit goods.

Citing Brent and Harrow as problem areas, Lord Toby Harris, the GLA member for Brent and Harrow has called for urgent action to tackle the 25 per cent increase in tuberculosis cases in London over the past five years.
He said: 'As GLA member for Brent and Harrow, I am particularly concerned that Brent and Harrow Health Authority should have the third highest figures for the number of TB cases in London, but the pattern everywhere is very worrying and urgent action is needed.'
The number of reported cases in Brent and Harrow Health Authority jumped from 236 in 1998, to 286 in 1999, an increase of 21 per cent,, the largest increase of all London District Health Authorities in that time period.

On 4 May, a double-decker Routemaster bus, clad in London Elects ‘Londoners have their say’ advertising, began its journey across Greater London to spread the word about the London Elections on 10 June.
The bus will be parked at ASDA Wembley from 10am — 12pm and will then travel to Harrow and park outside the Civic Centre from 2pm.
