Brentwood is a local government district and borough in Essex in the East of England.
To the south west the borough has a border with the London Borough of Havering and to the south with the borough and unitary authority of Thurrock.
The borough was formed on April 1, 1974 when Brentwood urban district was merged with part of Chelmsford rural district and Epping and Ongar Rural District.

The Borough of Brentwood has dropped its appeal of a wrongful-death verdict against its best-known police officer, agreeing to pay Judith Barrett's heirs roughly half of the $215,000 a federal civil jury originally ruled they were owed.
Barrett's death was not a "foreseeable consequence" of borough officials' failure to discipline Vojtas, it ruled, despite his involvement in 16 recorded incidents of domestic violence with a total of three battered women.
Other Brentwood officers testified that they had heard that illicit video poker machines were operating with the blessing of borough officials and assumed that there were payoffs to politicians.

BRENTWOOD: Governor Edward G. Rendell today praised the Brentwood Borough School District for using its Pennsylvania Accountability Block Grant funds, part of the Governor's plan to boost student achievement across the Commonwealth through proven academic programs, to expand its full-day kindergarten.
Speaking at a Brentwood Senior High School event that saluted students for their ingenuity at problem solving, the Governor said the block-grant program will help increase younger students' performance by allowing school districts to direct funds to areas where they are needed most.
Brentwood's grant would grow 42 percent to $198,601 under Governor Rendell's proposal from $139,353 under the current plan.
