The Brethren in Christ Church (often called B.I.C. Church) is an evangelical Christian denomination with roots in the Mennonite church, pietism, and Wesleyan holiness.
Often known by their locality, a group of brethren north of Marietta, Pennsylvania on the east side of the Susquehanna River became known as the River Brethren.
The River Brethren distanced themselves from other Anabaptist denominations (Mennonites and German Baptists) as they developed a conviction that trine immersion was the scriptural form of baptism.

It was formed on 29 December 1883, by the union of two bodies, the Evangelical United Mennonite, and a Brethren in Christ group in Ohio, known as the Swankites, who had separated from their mother body in 1838.
The Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church represented in its beginning a breaking forth of new life in the Mennonite community, with emphasis upon evangelism and aggressive work, conversion and Christian experience with a warm, rather emotional piety, and a stronger supervisory organization.

They follow traditional Brethren beliefs and practices: women are expected to have long hair and to wear a head covering, men are to have short hair, no musical instruments are accepted in the worship time, and of course divorce and remarriage is not allowed.
