Brewerytown - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brewerytown is a neighborhood in the North Philadelphia district of the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.
An unofficial region; Brewerytown runs approximately between the Schuylkill River's eastern bank and 23rd Street, bounded by Cecil B. Moore Avenue in the north and Parrish Street in the south.
As its name suggests, Brewerytown is so called because of the numerous breweries which were located along the Schuylkill during the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Overview   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Brewerytown, North Philadelphia is essentially two communities: one white and relatively prosperous, one African-American and decidedly distressed.
Both are being impacted by a dramatic increase in property values for reasons that include their proximity to the rapidly rising center city real estate market and an influx of well-paid professionals.
Because the white portion of Brewerytown is closest to center city and, perhaps for other reasons related to race and urban blight, changes have occurred more rapidly there.

Several parts of North Philadelphia, especially those that border the Center City district, have recently been experiencing varying levels of gentrification.
Once bleak neighborhoods like Brewerytown, Fairmount, Francisville, the Northern Liberties, Poplar, and West Kensington have seen growth, some in the form of a complete turnaround, others only as a glimmer of hope.
Other regions have seen little change, or are resistant of the gentrifying forces, seeing it as an invasion of the rich.
