Brian: Well, my first problem is for anyone to think that we are "rich rock stars." That could not be farther from the truth.
Brian: I wouldn't necessarily label us a Christian band by any means, but all of us in the band are very spiritual and keep our faith and spirituality very close to us.
Brian: We love to hear what that song means to other people, but as far as what it means to Jesse, it's a very personal matter that he isn't quite comfortable with letting out quite yet.

There was something for every young viewer on this day in 1984, when the much-loved children's entertainer, Brian Cant, appeared on two channels at the same time.
For those keen on mystery, there was ITV's Dramarama, in which he played an absent-minded major wrapped up in the world of detective work, and for the younger viewers there was BBC's PlayAway.
Cant moved back into theatre - his career began in repertory - and has since toured the UK with a number of plays, including Les Dawson's Run For Your Wife and Doctor In The House.

There is, however, one element which is not authentic: the narrator is Charlie Higson from the Fast Show, not Brian Cant, the much-loved voice of the originals.
Why choose Higson - fine performer though he is - when Cant is alive and well and still working (he's currently in rehearsals for a show, Still Playing Away, with old sidekick, pianist Jonathan Cohen).
Cant told Ad Breakdown that, yes, he had auditioned to do the voiceovers for the Quaker adverts, but that the producers had chosen Higson instead.

DH bought the Life of Brian on DVD this summer, maybe I should watch it for a bit of inspiration.

Here Gareth Randall (he's the one on the left!) interviews Brian, and asks him about his involvement in the earlier years of children's television.
You were always trying to make the child feel that you were doing the programme just for them; I think it paid off, and I think it's why so many people remember it as being special to them, because they got to know each and every one of us as brothers, sisters, uncles or whatever.
