Brian drummed on Gary Moore’s 1978 solo album, “Back on the Street,” and he was part of the band, The Greedies, which included Phil, Scott, Steve Jones, the guitarist for the Sex Pistols and Paul Cook, the drummer for the Pistols.
Brian Downey’s drumming and percussion work can be heard on various projects from the period of the Thin Lizzy years and after.
Brian has played with blues band, Blues Up Front, since 1998 and they had a weekly residency at Slattery’s, the famed Dublin music club, where their live album, “All The Way From Dublin,” was recorded.

Scott Gorham and Brian Downey went back into the studio and through the magic of modern technology were able to replace the drum and guitar tracks on a studio recording of DEDICATION that Philip had started (probably with GRAND SLAM) but never released.
The support band was made up of: BRIAN DOWNEY on drums, GUS ISIDORE (later in THE THIRD MAN) on guitar, DARREN WHARTON on keyboards, JEROME RIMSON on bass and JIMMY BAIN (later in WILD HORSES) on second keyboard.
BRIAN DOWNEY was tired of all the touring by this point, and the thought of Australia was just too much for him.

Gorham and Robertson generally played lead lines in harmonic tandem, while Downey (a great drummer who had equal amounts of power and style) drove the engine.
After a few early records that hinted at the band's potential, Lizzy released Fighting in 1975, and the band (Lynott, guitarists Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham, and drummer Brian Downey) had molded itself into a pretty tight recording and performing unit.
In 1999, Thin Lizzy reunited with a lineup featuring guitarists Scott Gorman and John Sykes, and keyboardist Darren Wharton, which was rounded out by a journeyman rhythm section of bassist Marco Mendoza and drummer Tommy Aldridge.

The Chantays were from Santa Ana, California, and included Bob Spickard on lead guitar, Brian Carmen on rhythm guitar, Rob Marshall on piano, Warren Walters on bass, and drummer Bob Welch.
Continuing with Downey, Dot obtained "Pipeline" by the Chantays (spelled "Chantay's" on the label) and released it nationally as Dot 16440.
It rode the wave to #4, prompting Dot to re-release the Chantays' Downey 1002 album as Dot DLP-3516/25516.
