Brian Holland (born February 15, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan) is an African American songwriter and record producer, best known as a member of Holland-Dozier-Holland.
That songwriting and production team that was responsible for much of the Motown sound and numerous hit records by artists such as Martha and the Vandellas, The Supremes, The Four Tops, and The Isley Brothers.
Holland, along with Lamont Dozier, served as the team's musical arranger and producer.

Holland-Dozier-Holland was a songwriting and production team consisting of Lamont Dozier and brothers Brian Holland and Edward Holland, Jr.
The three wrote and produced for a number of stars who recorded with Motown Records, including "(Love is Like a) Heat Wave" for Martha and the Vandellas, "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)" for Marvin Gaye, and many hits for The Four Tops and The Supremes.
Lamont Dozier and Brian Holland served as the composers/producers, while Edward Holland was the lyricist and vocal arranger.

Brian came up with a lot of the melodies, as did I. On most of the pictures from back then, Brian and I are sitting side by side at the piano.

Brian has the distinction of being a World Old-time Piano Playing Champion (1997-'99) of a competition sponsored by the Old-time Music Preservation Association (OMPA), winning his third title at only twenty-seven years of age.

Brian Holland quickly decided that it wasn't for him -- "I just didn't like being on stage," he explains -- but Eddie, who was managed by Gordy, had a brief recording contract with Mercury Records.
It was Brian who met and began working with Dozier in 1962 at Motown's Hitsville studios, and they soon brought Eddie Holland into the mix.

Eddie Holland: I can remember when they had the first BMI Awards dinner and we were up for about three or four awards but we didn't go.
The next day I brought it into the guys, and Brian was playing this thing that seemed to fit it, and we had it right off the bat.

Longtime BMI songwriters, Brian Holland affiliated with the performing rights organization in 1960, followed by Lamont Dozier in 1961 and Eddie Holland in 1963.
They were inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, and received the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) Trustees Award in 1998.
