Brian Moriarty built his first computer in the fifth grade.
Brian stayed with Infocom almost up to the end and incidentally his last game there, "Beyond Zork," marked the final struggle of transforming from text-only adventures to those with graphics.
It was not long after Infocom's end that his talent took him to the most powerful company in graphical adventure gaming in the late 80's and early 90's, Lucas Arts, and his first game there, "Loom" sold over half a million copies and received several industry awards, including MacWorld's Adventure Game of the Year.

Eventually, when Brian Moriarty became very unhappy with the development of the game for many reasons, he left the company to go work at Rocket Science (in fact he left LucasArts the same day that the Pizza Orgy for The Dig was being held).
Brian's past experience in text based game making had not prepared him for developing such an animation and art heavy project and with such a large staff.
Although early beta versions of Clark's The Dig included a 5-icon GUI much like the one in Brian Moriarty's version (but with an extra Talk to icon added), it was later simplified to the final "one-click-does-it-all" interface, after the former was deemed too cumbersome by testers.

I always thought that it was a great pity that Brian Moriarty (when he was resident at Infocom) did not write Sherlock: Riddle of the Crown Jewels adventure for Infocom which was completed by Bob Bates.
I know that many adventurers, after playing works such as Wishbringer, Trinity and Beyond Zork, would consider Brian Moriarty to be a genius of interactive fiction.
Brian left Infocom just before Dave Lebling and Steve Meretzky departed signaling the beginning of the end of Infocom as an independent development outfit.

Of course, I was sitting in the front row, looking at Moriarty's face eerily illuminated by the podium's little reading light as he pontificated on the mysteries of Shakespear and Bach.
:) Both he and Moriarty (and Jonathan Baron, if you've ever heard him speak) are in that revered category of speaker, where if I see their names on a program, no matter what it is that they're talking about, I'm going to go listen to them.
Because no matter what subject they choose in any particular year, I know that their material is going to be well-researched, that they're going to speak with passion, and that I and most of the rest of the audience are probably going to walk away with an emotional afterglow of "Wow!"

Infocom's latest is an introductory-level adventure game written by a new addition to the company, Brian Moriarty (naturally nicknamed Professor Moriarty), who brings with him a fondness for Lovecraft, Hawthorne, and things that go bump in the night.
Wishbringer is a story about what happens to a child who helps deliver the mail in the small, rural New England town of Festeron.
Infocom's writers have always been noted for their wit (or is it wits?), and Moriarty seems an eminently qualified citizen of the Underground Empire.
