 Dan Hicks Reasserts His Singularity
His voice may be a little crusty from time to time, but whatever he sings, it swings.
The Hicks style is a combination of his acerbic songs, the jazzy sounds of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, a dollop of the Andrews Sisters in the background and his deadpan delivery.
Joining Hicks on the record are some of his admirers -- Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Bette Midler, Ricki Lee Jones, Brian Setzer -- whose presence is undoubtedly intended to draw attention.
