Thickly settled, finely adorned, enterprising and picturesqne, Westport is one of the foremost fishing stations on the western coast.
Brier Island was visited by Fishermen at an early period.

The island is noted as #79367 in the Coastal Island Registry, yet the State of Maine considers the island to be federal property and not its responsibility.
While bathymetrically Machias Seal Island is separated from the US mainland by a wide channel that is deeper than the channel separating it from the Grand Manan archipelago, the bedrock is composed of rock of the island that is more akin to the rock on the US mainland than Canada.
In regards to Machias Seal Island's ownership, the United States is relying on its interpretation of the wording in the original Nova Scotia grant and subsequent treaties to assert its ownership over the island.

We had better visibility are we came between Briar Island and Peter Island and then we were in the sunshine off the town of Westport.
We walked along the shoreline and arrived on the bluff overlooking the cut between Briar Island and Peter Island.

The U.S. Government purchased acreage on the island in the 19th century, establishing a civil war encampment and later, Fort Greble, remnants of which stand like the lost city, camoflauged by thickets of briar and ivy.
Still, it turned out not to be a problem, as there is plenty of island to go around even if all the campsites were taken.
The part of the island where we landed is, in my opinion, the loveliest.

Well, I don't have an island, but my mom did and one thing I really liked about hers is that she had a small nook on one end for cookbooks.
Of course, the standard drawers for pots, etc. Also, on the other end, she had a place for her to sit and study recipes, calendar agendas, etc. But the seating was for one as they had an empty nest.
I love having an island - it is just so useful and it's the first time I've had a kitchen that includes one.

Part of the basalt layer has been eroded away, by now, but a ridge of basalt forms the North Mountain in Nova Scotia, extending from Briar Island to Cape Split along the south shore of the Bay of Fundy.
We know that the North Mountain Basalt extends right under the Bay of Fundy and parts of it are exposed on the shore at Five Islands, east of Parrsboro on the north side of the bay.
