Dracula - Marvel Universe: The definitive online source for Marvel super hero bios.
Dracula was born in A.D. 1430; in 1444 he accompanied his father and Radu to Turkey to discuss peace, but they were ambushed, and the sons were held prisoner by Sultan Murad II to force Vlad the Elder to favor Turkey.
In the early 20th century, Dracula battled a manifestation of Death, vampirized John Falsworth (Baron Blood), slew Jon Harker, defeated mobster Nick Diablo in Rome, met Marianne Cutlass (daughter of the pirate captain), battled the Frenchman in Marsailles, and encountered the demonic Devil's Heart in North Carolina.
Dracula encountered the mutants of Generation X, then was forced to work with Elsa Bloodstone, whose father he had fought in the past, to oppose the Nosferatu vampires, who sought to infect other "purebred" vampires with an Ebola-like virus, making them immortal blood donors.

 The Brides of Dracula (1960) | Classic-Horror
Of all the films given the Hammer Stamp of Approval, Brides of Dracula, is probably the most popular.
It seems to be given the most play on television, it’s one of the most highly recognized Hammer titles, and it has the most infamous closing scene of any of the Hammer Films.
To name this movie The Brides of Dracula is somewhat inappropriate as it isn’t the official Count Dracula causing the mass mayhem.

An unholy Baron, loyal and blood-thirsty disciple of the late lamented Dracula, has survived death to feast on the blood of the living. You'll be seeing the wicked Count's pupil in the new Hammer film, The Brides of Dracula, and the same team of experts which made Dracula into a world box-office hit has been reunited.
Disciple of Dracula was a tale of Baron Meinster - a vampire who terrorised two English women, Margaret and Pauline, and made the incumbents of a nearby ladies academy his prey.
The screenplay was re-titled The Brides of Dracula.

Beyond the Slimy Wall: Van Helsing
Seems Dracula and his brides have been getting busy over the last several hundred years, and there are scores and scores of little baby vampires just waiting to be born.
Frankenstein’s work gave him and his brides hope that their babies could be...well, born is about the best word for it, I guess, but in order to accomplish this, Dracula needed the Monster to provide the necessary energy boost.
Where Dracula’s already got Frankenstein’s Monster strapped to the table, so it’s a fairly small leap of logic to determine that the baby vamps are gonna come to life, meaning Van Helsing will either have to kill Dracula and right fast, or free the Monster before the transference of...whatever, is complete.

The brides of dracula is another hit from hammer studio.
The new vamp in question is one Baron Meinster, a Dracula disciple played commendably by David Peel, providing a worthy opponent for the true star of "Brides", the late great Quiet Gentleman of Horror, Peter Cushing.
"Brides of Dracula" may lack Bram Stoker's literary icon, but it more than makes up for it with creative directing from Hammer's finest helmer Terence Fisher, lush sets and costumes, and of course, a marvelous leading man and one of the successors to the legacy of Karloff and Lugosi, the one and only Peter Cushing.

Atmospherically the film is at top notch again, with misty forests, dark and eerie castles and humble Transylvanian villages all providing some exquisite sets in which the actors can strut their stuff.
Final Verdict: Coming directly after the genre-defining precedents that Horror of Dracula set was going to be no easy feat and thankfully The Brides of Dracula does it's best to live up to standards.

The Baroness herself sets the skin crawling far more than Christopher Lee's slightly wooden performance in Dracula (whoops, there goes that heresy again) and the idea of padlocks just dropping off a victims coffin is actually more unnerving than it deserves to be.
As with many of the Hammer classics the plot is a little on the thin side and full of holes (for example, if the Baron can transform into a highly-unconvincing bat why couldn't he do this to escape his mother's chains?) but the shortcomings can be forgiven for the sheer style of the piece.
The climax of the film was originally have the baron destroyed by a swarm of bats.

Eventually, Hammer DID lure him back to the role (in Dracula: Prince of Darkness six years after Brides of Dracula and afterwards) and Lee's fears about the part proved to be entirely justified.
Horror of Dracula established certain rules for Hammer's vampires: no transformations into bats, no fogs, no controlling vermin.
The Road Not Taken: One aspect of The Brides of Dracula that Hammer chose not to pursue when Christopher Lee returned to the cape was the notion that Van Helsing was a character worth following in subsequent movies as a hero in his own right.
