  Bridge Piercing - BME Encyclopedia
A bridge piercing passes horizontally through the fleshy part between the eyes above or at nose level (a vertical bridge piercing is a surface piercing and technically quite different).
The piercing is best done with a straight, curved (this will sit crookedly unless it's a flush fit), or staple barbell, unless it's being done shallower to allow the wearing of a smaller ring.
When switching to a ring, be sure it's well healed and it's a D-ring or at least allows comfortable moving.

Bridge piercing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A bridge piercing is a body piercing through the bridge of the nose, usually directly between the eyes of the wearer.
Once the piercing is healed, it is possible to wear a captive bead ring in it, although depending on the placement of the piercing, a D-ring styled ring may be necessary to prevent migration caused by the pressure exerted by the shape of a ring.
Bridge piercings are of contemporary origin, possibly being first performed in 1989 by body piercer Dan Kopka of the Gauntlet body piercing studio in Los Angeles on Erl van Aken, a body piercing pioneer and actor famous for wearing jewelery in his bipedicle flap.

The action of piercing often separates the skin layer from the cartilage layer at the exit point; the jewelry should be rotated towards the exit after the piercing is complete and after cleaning to push the layers back together.
This piercing must not be made too deep to avoid piercing the blood vessels and nerves that are found on either side of the bridge.
The piercing should be made in the center of the triangle of the frenulum and not too close to the base of the tongue where several blood vessels and glands are present.

Relatively rare five years ago, piercing the bridge of the nose has recently been gaining in popularity, both on the street and on screen.
If you are among the daring, the bridge piercing will take you about 8 - 10 weeks to heal, and is cared for much the same as an eyebrow piercing.
Procedure-wise, the piercing can be done with forceps or freehand, depending on both the piercer and the piercee, and it tends not to be a very painful one.

Septum piercings are either relatively painless or quite painful, depending on whether they pass through the cartilage in your nose or not (everyone's nose is a bit different).
Migration happens when the skin on the inside of the piercing dies, usually because of pressure or irritation from the jewelry, causing the effective length of the piercing to shorten.
Piercing should be placed in the top half of the uvula to minimize risk of migration.

Surface Bar - BME Encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
While Surface Piercing is a diverse art, and different piercings do need different solutions, if a generalization is to be made, is it generally agreed upon that surface bars are the best available solution to the surface piercing problem.
Assuming one matches the shape and sizes the bar properly and places it in an area where motion and impact won't be an issue, there are no major reasons why anyone shouldn't be able to heal one of these.
There is a newer incarnation of the surface bar without a proper name (perhaps appropriately "surface wire"); a surface bar made of flat wire stock instead of round stock, thereby bringing its volume to an utter minimum, while maintaining surface area.
