Bridget's dad also did stand up comedy at the club, which may explain how she ended up on the road doing stand up comedy herself years later.
Some may recall that Bridget's BBI writing staff colleague Mary Jo Pehl has revealed that her father was, at one time, the mayor of Circle Pines, MN.

Though the feature is surprisingly not quite as good as some of the best episodes of the cable program, it still has it where it counts and makes for some decent comedy.
I was also disappointed by the relatively short runtime (the Grade Z feature being mocked is edited; I'd have liked to see them rake the whole thing); some of the television episodes (even without commercials) ran longer than this “feature-sized” effort.
The plot elements centering on the MST3K characters are hit and miss; some work well (like the introduction to the overall premise of the movie) while some just bomb (Mike trying to fly the satellite, for example).

MST3K found redemption and escape by slashing and burning through all the bullshit in the ideal image of cinema.
The only chief extra is a half-hour reel of bloopers (none from inside the theater, but from the intermission segments with the show's hosts) that was previously issued on VHS under the cute title Poopie.
I would say that MST3K fans would likely eat this collection of high jinks up, but I couldn't help but notice that most of them keep it tucked away under their mattresses in shame.

This is quite a good turn-out for such a cult thing, we had about the same number of attendees as the Anime nights this replaced.

I laughed out loud quite a few times, and chuckled all the way through, and the host segments were excellent.
The best was the one where Mike Nelson and Bridget Jones play the little kids from the film.
Bridget Jones made me laugh when she said: "Gamera is my boyfriend!" All in all, another really good episode in a great season, though not quite up to par with the antics of the original Kenny and the infamous Cornjob.

The sad truth is that Mystery Science Theatre 3000 (or MST3K as fans refer to it) isn't showing on any of the local television channels here in South Africa.
However, after having seen the movie version of MST3K (only released here on video in 1997), I must admit that I was sorely tempted.
MST3K is funny and you don't need a Ph.D. to get all the jokes.

On the shelves were five MST3K Rhino episodes: Pod People, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, Manos: The Hands of Fate, Gunslinger, and MST3K: The Movie.
Some now love the show, some hate it, but the ones who hated it seemed to be much lower in intelligence than the ones who enjoyed it.
But MST3K has a certain quality to it that simply does not exist elsewhere, it leaves you with this good feeling about it, that you’ve survived the cheesy movie, and got a hilarious commentary as well.

Fortunately, I had the foresight to tape this back in the day and I'm happy to offer it for trade on DVD-R. There are times when I shock myself at how good a well-kept EP episode will show up on DVD, and this DVD came out very well.
In the opening host segment, we're treated to a visit from Lisa Loeb (portrayed by Bridget Jones) in the hexfield viewscreen.
Sounds cool and hip (for 1995 anyway), but she gets annonying and won't go away.

It's called "The MST3K Fiction Page", and as you may have guessed, it gathers together all of the *stories* (not MSTings) about MST3K that are floating around the internet and puts them in one place.
I haven't put any restrictions on the stuff I put up so some of it is less than brilliant, but there *are* some real gems.
If you like the characters of MST3K as well as the movie sections you should like it anyway.

Like The Day the Earth Stood Still, it postulates a patriarchal, peace-loving extraterrestrial who's trying to end war on earth (albeit an extraterrestrial who's in conflict with the beings on his own and another planet); and like Forbidden Planet, it creates an attractive, if much more modest, stretch of otherworldly landscape and architecture.
The film was directed by Joseph M. Newman, a fairly routine but competent action director; adapted by George Callaghan from three short stories by Raymond F. Jones that were later reworked into a novel; produced by William Alland, who played the semiinvisible reporter Thompson in Citizen Kane; and released by Universal Pictures.
But I guess if you see a country landscape you've got to say something to prove how smart you are.

The answers to most I knew before from monitoring the MST3K newsgroups, with the exception that Crow and Tom puppets will be available for purchase.
Oh, and they rattled off the names of a bunch of movies from the Sci-Fi Channel's archives, including "Them!" I'm unsure if those are exactly the movies that they're going to do this new season, but my vote would go for "Nightfliers," probably the most pathetic movie I ever rented.
After the MST3K presentation ended, we went over to the Hyatt for the Future of Torg seminar.
