Brigadier is a rank in the British military, Australian Army, New Zealand Army and several other Commonwealth armies ranking above Colonel and immediately below Major-General.
A Brigadier is properly considered the most senior field rank and is therefore more a senior colonel than the lowest rank of general (much like a Commodore is to an Admiral in the navy).
It has been awarded the equivalent NATO status as a Brigadier General in the United States military, where it is a general officer rank.

The rank of Brigadier General in the British Army was abolished in 1922 (for its insignia refer to General).
Strictly speaking a brigadier (in the British army) is the highest ranked field officer; hence the dropping of the word general from the rank, whereas a Brigadier General (in the American and other armies) is the lowest General rank.
The concept of a Brigadier German General rank is relativly new, as prior to 1950 the first German General rank was known as Generalmajor.

Brigadier Muhmmad Siddique Saliq (1921 - August 17 1987) was a close associate of former Pakistani President Muhammad Zia ul-Haq.
Saliq fought in the Indo-Pakistan wars of 1965 and 1971, where he was stationed in east Bengal.
Captured by Indian troops on December 19, 1971, Saliq was initially incarcerated in Agra gaol before being shifted to various other prisons as a Prisoner of War.
