BRIGG has developed in many ways, but is still the most widely used "crossing of the Ancholme" and a good place to sell goods.
At Brigg Music Festival in 1905 the folk song section was won by Joseph Taylor of Saxby-All-Saints and the "Brigg Fair" tune, allegedly inspired Delius to compose his famous rhapsody of the same name.
However, manufacture of bikes in the town was thriving more than a century ago, courtesy of George Henry Layne, who exported widely to Australia and the United States.

Brigg became the administrative centre for the local area with a grammar school founded in 1669 by Sir John Nelthorpe, after whom the school, a comprehensive since 1976, is named.
Brigg is home to Brigg Town Football Club, which formed in 1864, only two years after the first, Notts County, making it one of the oldest clubs in the world.

Brigg Town FC, known as the Zebras, are the oldest surviving club in Lincolnshire, and one of the oldest clubs in England, having been formed in 1864.
Thus the town of Brigg was one of the main centres of football in the latter part of the 19th century, with the club secretary, Harry Storm, being a leading light in the formation of the Lincolnshire FA.
Brigg Town are now well known for their exploits in national FA Competitions reaching the 6th Round of the Vase in 2000/01, and last season losing in the 5th Round after a replay to eventual winners Whitley Bay.

Briggs went to the Royal Navy recruiting office and attempted to enlist but was turned away due to his age but was told to try again at age 15.
Briggs states that no order was given to abandon ship and that he found himself in the water about 50 yards (50 m) from ''Hood'' as her B-Turret went under.

Brigg's annual town meeting took place in the Angel ballroom with around forty people attending of which around fifteen were residents and the remainder either Brigg Town or North Lincolnshire councillors.
The meeting was a quiet affair consisting of statements from the Town Mayor - John Kitwood, North Lincolnshire Brigg Ward Councillor - Nigel Sherwood and representatives of the police, local groups and organisations.

Two Brigg Town councillors went to a local CPRE Hedgerow Day and as a result the Town Council decided it must take action to try to identify and protect our own historic hedgerows.
Their project was later entered for a local C.P.R.E. Environment Award, and the Town Council was delighted when the school was awarded First Place and received a cheque for £250.00 for school funds.
Brigg Preparatory School was disrupted by a week of torrential rain, which prevented them from completing their survey work, but the Town Council has been assured that their project will be completed and presented in September.

Brigg had the better of the opening exchanges and Phil Melville was twice called upon to make good saves but as the half wore on Mossley got into their stride and Jordan Goodeve, Mario Daniel and Shaun Dootson all went close for the home side.
Mossley were becoming bogged down in the clinging Seel Park mud and Brigg were massing in defence and time-wasting as often as possible.
