Bright Eyes is an indie rock band formed in 1995 in Omaha, Nebraska.
During the 2004 election season, Bright Eyes toured with Bruce Springsteen and R.E.M. on the MoveOn.org "Vote for Change" tour, further pushing him into the public eye.
On May 5, 2005 Bright Eyes appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and performed the protest song "When the President Talks to God", a scathing rebuke of the Bush administration giving him a thrust politically into the mainstream and public spotlight.

One of the finest of the more recent practitioners of the Q as NL idea is Bright Eyes, a band comprised of Omaha, Nebraska's Conor Oberst and whomever else he chooses to record/perform with at any given time, and a band that's currently on hold.
Bright Eyes' last full-length, 2000's Fevers and Mirrors (Saddle Creek), was widely --and rightfully -- hailed by critics as one of that year's best releases, and by that point the touring version of Bright Eyes had matured into a solid live act as well, as evidenced by an appearance at Solar Culture that same year.
A Bright Eyes song carries so much sadness you think Oberst might break down in tears at any moment, but a Desaparecidos song channels that intensity into the observational realm, so much so that it sounds like his head could explode if he has to lay eyes on another goddam Burger King.

Bright Eyes has signed a publishing deal with Sony, released a third full-length and two EPs (all highly acclaimed), and toured the U.S., Europe and Asia many times over.
The Rage caught up with the three bands in the middle of Ohio, where they were casually making their way up to a handful of shows along the East Coast, including two shows at New York's Bowery Ballroom as well as the 850-capacity Sommerville Theater in Boston, all of which have been completely sold out.

Some have been Commander Venus, some Park Ave., some Bright Eyes, some Conor Oberst, etc., etc. he has accomplished quite a bit for such a young age.
there were hundreds of bands cranking out loud, emotionally driven indie-rock, and commander venus was fortunate enough to realize this.
Since the first bright eyes release, Conor continues to grow as a songwriter, the recording continue to get more elaborate in sound quality as well as musicianship.

I've loved Bright Eyes ever since i've heard them a while back and they continue to amaze me. Conor is truely gifted in his songwriting and his creativity not only shows through in HIS music but all the other bands that he puts on his record label Saddle Creek.
Bright Eyes did not play Haliegh Haliegh, a Lie Haliegh or Sunrise Sunset despite the fact that me and 5 other people were yelling at them to do so.

Bright Eyes has to have the most polarized group of critic and fans.
When it came time for the solo acoustic numbers like "Lua", the band would disappear and Conor would inhabit the stage with his guitar and a strange confidence that most 24 year olds are still searching for.
By the time the rest of the band returns and the trumpet kicks in with the beginning of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy", you could tell this wasn"t going to be a classical piece.

Bright Eyes took several long breaks in between songs to talk and joke amongst themselves, completely ignoring the fact that a sold-out crowd was watching their every move.
Bright Eyes' songs have been stuck in my head ever since the show, his albums are the only ones I can listen to, and his lyrics are the only ones running through my head.
Bright Eyes may have put on an incredible performance, but unfortunately opening acts Arab Strap and Jesse Harris weren't up to par.

His entity known as Bright Eyes is not so much a band as it is the 22-year-old fronting whatever musicians he has surrounded himself with at the time; it has previously consisted of Oberst and an accordion player, Oberst and six women, and Oberst and 14 ragtag orchestral 20-somethings.
True, Bright Eyes' latest album, Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground does contain its fair share of religious questioning, but you get the feeling that come judgment day any omnipresent spirit would be on his side.
Oberst's voice furiously prods the insecurities shared by generations of post-adolescents trying to make sense of the adult world, but he also infuses his figurative laments with a melancholy earnestness, communicating a more gut-wrenching breed of angst than the Limp Bizkits and Eminems of the world could ever hope to.
