 Mike Rayhawk: BrikWars!
BrikWars is a tongue-in-cheek wargame, designed for taking the most congenial and innocent construction-toy figures and plunging them into the darkest depths of the most horrifying forms of violence.
The web release of BrikWars' Tenth Anniversary Edition required a whole pile of artwork, some pieces scraped together and retrofitted from years of previous material, and a whole bunch slapped together from scratch over the course of the last year.
BrikWars has a unique philosophy of glorifying cheerful violence and happy-go-lucky mayhem for their own sakes, and it's spawned a number of distinctive religions among the construction-toy populace.

BrikWars in its current state would never have been possible without the generous help and support of dozens of fans, well-wishers, and unwitting 'contributors.' Here's a few of the big ones.
Following the classic BrikWars maneuver that concluded the Battle of ISS Glacier, strange alien artifacts began emerging through the resulting rifts in the fabric of space-time.
After the retrieval of the alien crystals, it became a race to see who would be the first to return them to the alien ruins on Phobos, although no one knew for sure what the result would be.

Looks like LEGO is going for army-builder sets in a big way this year, likely related to the surprise success of last year's Knights' Kingdom chess set even despite the replacement of the white team with the somewhat less-inspiring color of Barbie blue.
But they've just also announced the upcoming show-stopper of army-builder sets: this year's chess set is Vikings themed, and this time they decided to go with both sides being awesome instead of just the one.

It's even better that you can do this with resources that don't require painting and can be easily disassembled and reassembled at your whim (and cost a fraction of what components for those other miniatures wargames require).
In fact, you may have the makings of a Brikwars battle in your house at this very minute.
We're moving on to the Brikwars basic rules, which is a lot more like Warhammer - (a)Move (b)Roll to hit (c)Assess damage.

Like many games offered free of charge on the internet, BrikWars is appealing in concept, but in practice nearly impossible to play.
Rules that appear straightforward at first become perniciously more complex with each passing chapter, almost as if the author were using the rulebook as the medium for some long-running and obscure practical joke.

And unlike most tabletop wargames, it is (a)free for the rules, (b)cheap for the parts, (c)flexible rather than unbelievably strict (the 'what I say goes' rule comes in real handy in solving arguments).
Note that since the Brikwars rules are free (available at http://www.brikwars.com), this not a bizzare form of product advertisement.
