Construction is underway east of downtown Nashville on the widening of I-40 and the reconstruction of the Briley Parkway Interchange adjacent to the Nashville International Airport.
The Briley Parkway reconstruction begins 750 feet south of Karen Drive and extends to 1,700 feet south of Elm Hill Pike.
Briley Parkway Southbound will carry five lanes of traffic to the exit ramp to I-40 at which point the five lanes will split into three lanes each for Briley Parkway and the exit ramp.

 Beverly Briley - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Briley served in the US Navy during World War II and afterwards ran a successful campaign for county judge (chief executive) of Davidson County in 1946, serving until 1963.
Briley was a champion of metropolitan government and in 1963 won election against Davidson County tax assessor Clifford Allen, another longtime Nashville politician, and became the first mayor of what is known as Metro Nashville.
His grandson, Rob Briley, is active in local politics and represents a Nashville district in the state legislature; another grandson, David Briley, is a city council representative in Nashville.

Some of the delays that have plagued the $100 million Briley Parkway road-widening project along the Opry Mills corridor did not have to happen -- including one error in designing a part of a bridge 6 inches too short that set back the project 72 days, according to interviews and documents from state transportation officials.
The Briley Project was supposed to have been wrapped up by June 2005.
The deadline without the incentives for the section of Briley Parkway from Lebanon Road to Two Rivers Parkway is September, 2007.

The last leg of Briley Parkway (State Route 155) in Nashville, Tennessee was opened December 19 with a ribbon cutting ceremony by officials from Rogers Group, Tennessee Department of Transportation, and state lawmakers.
The road is named for the late Mayor Beverly Briley, who was Mayor of Nashville when construction of the earliest section of Briley Parkway began in the 1960’s.
Briley’s daughter Diane Easterling and grandsons David and Rob Briley took part in the ribbon cutting.
