Brinnington is one of Stockport's most deprived areas and has the borough's highest unemployment rate.
Brinnington Community First, which will have offices at the heart of the Top Shops development, has overseen the spending of more than £3m of European cash from the Single Regeneration Budget as well as match funding from other sources.
Manager Sue Rawlinson, who was born in Brinnington and has been involved in regeneration projects there for 10 years, told Metro News she hoped the striking look of the Top Shops project would show people what had been achieved.

In 1902 Brinnington was an exclusive area inhabited by rich industrialists, who enjoyed panoramic views of Stockport from vast countryside houses.
Many industrialists opted to live in Brinnington as it was elevated above Stockport and provided a unique vantage point to keep an eye on their factories.
Brinnington house is thought to have been built around 1850, and one of its walls is now the side structure of St Paul’s school.

In 1902 the remainder of Brinnington was incorporated into Bredbury civil parish, but much of this area became part of Stockport civil parish in 1952.

Organisers also want to explore Brinnington's pre-estate history including its significance to the Romans - it was considered an important military post as major roads and rivers met there.
