In recent years, the Museum of Brisbane (free) has been developed to the left of the main entrance and, when we visited, was featuring a display on the history of the Miss Australia contests, run from the 1920s until 2000 when they fell victim to political correctness.
The City Hall is open from 0800 to 1700 on weekdays and 1000 to 1700 on weekends.
Brisbane's City Hall is a historic sandstone edifice overlooking the sculptures and fountains of King George Square.

Brisbane City Hall was the backdrop for the beginning of a fabulous night of entertainment.
It was a warm still evening and the South Brisbane Federal band, conducted by the exuberant John Kennedy, were playing a program in the King George Square, outside the City Hall to get the audience into the mood.
Their magnificent sound filled the city hall and I would imagine shocked the audience by the standard and quality of their performance.

Due to financial problems encountered by the Association, the State Government took over the building in 1897 and leased the concert hall to the Brisbane City Council until the Brisbane City Hall was completed in 1930.
From 1891 to 1930, the Old Museum Concert Hall was the main venue for concerts in Brisbane, including recitals by Dame Nellie Melba and Ignaz Paderewski.
The Concert Hall space was then used by the Queensland Museum until it also moved to South Bank in 1987.

 Synchronome’s Domestic Clocks (ctd)
In 1929, an electrically controlled and driven clock with electrically driven striking was designed and installed in the new Brisbane City Hall by his son, Arthur Appleton Jackson.
South Brisbane Town Hall, in Vulture Street, was built in 1892 with an impressive tower with provision for four six foot diameter clock dials but it was not until 1904 that the council could afford the £100 for a clock.
Since the dissolution of the City of South Brisbane in 1925, the building has had many different occupants but the clock, which may actually be the world's first electrically controlled tower clock, has continued to tick on in tribute to its maker.
