With the outbreak of the war the airport was requisitioned by the Air Ministry and had the distinction of being the only civil airport in operation in the U.K. Imperial Airways, KLM and others were transferred from London's Croydon Airport to Whitchurch.
Bristol International is the only Airport in SouthWest and Wales with the capability for suitably equipped aircraft to land safely in poor visibility.
