 Community college graduation rates fall in Northeast - News
Five student representatives from area community colleges spoke at Wednesday's meeting, offering their school experiences to help the task force understand challenges that might cause community college students to drop out.
Gisselle O'Brady, president of the Student Government Association at Roxbury Community College and the only student on the task force, said a driven teaching staff is necessary to keep students motivated.
O'Brady also noted that community colleges with a large part-time faculty face problems because many of these part-time teachers are forced to balance students among other priorities.

Though voters approved construction of the $2.5 million facility last Tuesday by a 7 to 3 margin, Bristol Fire and Rescue Department Chief Robert Martin said the town won't break ground on the building until next fall, at the earliest.
While the chief said much work remains to done, he said he and his volunteers are ecstatic that voters approved the project, one of five separate projects included in the $15 million bond approved on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Local colleges are scrambling to make up for $1 million in spending cuts made by Gov. Mitt Romney last week.
Bridgewater State College will lose more than $450,000, Massasoit Community College will lose $209,000 and Bristol Community College will lose $166,000 if the governor's cuts are not restored by the Legislature or reversed by Gov.-Elect Deval Patrick.
Bill Davis, vice-president of administration and finance at Bridgewater State, said in addition to the direct cuts, the college estimates it will lose an additional $320,000 in state funding for employees' salaries under the last labor contract.
