	HMS Newcastle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The sixth Newcastle was commissioned in 1910 as a Bristol-class light cruiser of 4,900 tonnes with 2 x 6 inch (152 mm) guns and 10 x 4 inch (102 mm) guns.
		The Bristol-class were potentially the first true cruiser class to enter the Royal Navy, since previous cruisers had basically been fast or second class battleships.
		All of the Bristol Class met a similar fate throughout the 1920s.

	Town class cruiser (1910)
		The Town-class were light cruisers built for the Royal Navy (RN) and Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and were good long-range cruisers, perfect for the vast Empire that the RN had to patrol.
		The class saw a number of alterations during the war, including the addition of one 3 in (76 mm) gun for the AAW role.
		They were also the first cruisers to be fitted with an aircraft, specifically the Sopwith Pup, though the aircraft could not actually land back on the ship and would have to ditch into the sea if it was not possible to reach land.

		Bristol operated in the Florida Keys and in Cuban waters as a training ship for student officers for the rest of her active career.
		Bristol was berthed at Green Cove Springs, Fla., in the St. John's River berthing area, where she was decommissioned on 29 April 1946.

		Several of this class still remain today, mainly serving as training vessels, as those in service are largely obsolete.
		But the known registries of this class seem to be all over the place, ranging from 1*, up to 9*, so it's possible these were constructed at various intervals over a number of years.

		The fifth HMS Liverpool of the Royal Navy was a 4800 ton light cruiser of the Bristol class.
		In this she served with distinction, assisting in the rescue of the crew of the German cruiser Mainz.

		In the South Atlantic in November 1914, she saw action at the Battle of Coronel, when she engaged the German East Asia Cruiser Squadron, including the new cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, together with the cruisers HMS Good Hope and HMS Monmouth.
		Having inflicted little damage on the enemy, Glasgow escaped with moderate damage considering that an estimated 600 shells were fired at her, although the other British cruisers were lost with all hands.

		After working to find the wreck for a while, we decided to head over to the USS Wilkes Barre for a dive as it was getting late in the day.
		The USS Wilkes Barre was a 608’ long Cleveland-Class light cruiser sunk in 1972 after underwater explosive tests.
		It was an impressive sight to watch that graceful animal cruise along the massive superstructure in really good visibility as it provided a neat sense of scale of the wreck.

		On the GM's with Allison transmission, when you engage tow/haul mode it also changes the cruise control characteristics, so that it will let your speed drop a bit more on a hill before forcing a downshift.
		I used the cruise control on my GMC diesel all the time this summer, except in very hilly terrain or on curvy roads where it wasn't safe to maintain a steady speed.

		It was one thing for the Royal Navy to loose three armored cruisers to a skulking German submarine off the Dutch coast, but quite another matter to loose two armored cruisers with their entire complements in a stand up fight with two German armored cruisers.
		A fresh directive from the Admiralty reported that the German cruisers were still off Chile and for Sturdee, now in command of the combined force, to proceed to the Falkland Islands, 2,200 miles further south, which were to be used as a base for future operations.
		The Kent was a member of the County Class and sister to the HMS Monmouth, which was sunk with all hands during the Battle of Coronel.

	USN Ships--USS Cleveland (Cruiser # 19)
		Commissioned in November 1903 as the first of her class to be completed, she operated with the European Squadron and in U.S. and Caribbean waters during the next three and a half years.
		At the end of this deployment, she crossed the Pacific to California and was laid up at the Mare Island Navy Yard between mid-1910 and mid-1912.
		Reclassified as a gunboat (PG-33) in July 1920 and as a light cruiser (CL-21) in August 1921, Cleveland remained active off Latin America until she was decommissioned at the beginning of November 1929.

		After two trips to Bizerte and another period of shore bombardment, she escorted cruiser, Savannah, to Palermo.
		There, during a night air raid on 4 August, Shubrick was hit amidships by a 500-pound bomb which caused flooding of two main machinery spaces and left the ship without power.
		After escorting battleship, Nevada, and five cruisers to the Normandy beaches, Shubrick took her own fire support station and, at 0550 on 6 June, opened fire on her preassigned targets.
