SELBY, ironically, had played with Ellis on the Toronto Marlboro junior A team.
The previous season, BRIT had scored 45 goals and 88 points in 52 junior games.

I thought it was interesting since it mentions the two surnames you mentioned, but it's probably a long shot.
I am researching the Selby family in Ontario, Canada and haven't been able to uncover much yet.
I do know that I am related to the NHL hockey player, Brit Selby.

Brit Selby scored off a goal mouth scramble to restore the Whalers’ four goal lead, and Selwood finished off the scoring with his second goal of the game as his 60-foot shot eluded Daley.
Overall, the Jets outshot the Whalers 41-25, but the Jets still came out on the wrong end of the decision.
