Ideally, a new division's introduction to combat should be a relatively easy one, but Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt's December offensive in the Ardennes presented such a threat to the Allied cause that the 75th Infantry Division was obliged to start combat with the toughest fight encountered in the whole war in the west.
The 289th Infantry was attached to Combat Command B of the 3d Armored Division, and was given the mission of seizing, organizing, and defending a frontage of approximately 10,000 yards in the very heavily wooded area running south and east from GRANDMENIL to EREZEE.
The 290th Infantry was held in division reserve; the 3d Battalion in northern sector, the 1st Battalion in the southern, sector, and the2d Battalion in the rear at BASSE BODEUX.

 82nd Airborne Division History
The Division's assignment was to relieve the 26th Division in the Lagney Sector, northeast of Toul.
On the 12th, the Division was committed to the St. Mihiel Offensive.

 History of the 12th Infantry Division
The 12th Infantry Division was formed in October 1934 in Schwerin in Mecklenburg, part of Wehrkreis II (military district two) which encompassed all of the state of Pomerania, and from which all recruits new recruits would be drawn.
The organic regimental units of the Division were formed by the expansion of the 5th (Prussian) Infantry Regiment and the 6th Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Infantry regiment of the Reichswehr.
The 12th served in the arm that swept round the Allied force, and were instrumental in preventing a desperate attempt by the French to punch through and rescue their beleaguered allies.

During the evening the 372d Infantry was withdrawn from the line for reorganization south of Bussy Ferme, and the 157th Division placed a battalion of the French 333d Infantry on the line, Séchault—Moulin Moya, prior to the hour of attack of September 30.

 Operation Desert Sabre / Gulf War Ground Campaign
Frederick M. Franks, Jr., was deployed to the right of the XVIII Airborne Corps and consisted of the 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized), the 1st Cavalry Division (Armored), the 1st and 3d Armored Divisions, the British 1st Armored Division, the 2d Armored Cavalry, and the 11th Aviation Brigade.
In XVIII Corps' mission of envelopment, the 24th Infantry Division had the central role of blocking the Euphrates River valley to prevent the escape north of Iraqi forces in Kuwait and then attacking east in coordination with VII Corps to defeat the armor-heavy divisions of the Republican Guard Forces Command.
The 24th Infantry Division with the 3rd ACR continued its attack to the east to block enemy withdrawal and completed the elimination of the Republican Guard.

This was the first British unit to be dressed in the green jacket and armed with the rifle in place of the smoothbore musket and it represented the first British attempt at developing specialised light infantry for the European battlefield.
With the rest of the division it fought in the BEF during the Fall of France in 1940, with the 6th and 8th Battalions taking part in the counter attack at Arras in May 1940, which nearly killed General Erwin Rommel, before being evacuated to the UK.
When it returned to the UK as a training division, the battalion joined 131st Lorried Infantry Brigade at the end of November 1944 to replace one of the two Queen's Battalions that were disbanded.

 Combat Chronicle- 7th Armored Division
The Division was ordered to St. Vith where it absorbed much of the weight of the German drive and was forced to withdraw west of the Salm River, 23 December.
In March 1945 the Division held defensive positions along the west bank of the Rhine, south of Bonn to Unkelbach.
On 16 April the 53d German Panzer Corps surrendered to the Division and the eastern sector of the pocket collapsed.

Many of the lower level control and command positions within the HJ SS Panzer Grenadier Division were given to HJ members who had received exceptionally high marks in leadership and military training skills during their days in the HJ before and right after the start of the war.
After the British and Canadian forces had liberated Caen, the HJ SS Panzer Grenadier Division was one of the 24 German combat divisions, which became encircled in the Falaise pocket.
On May 8th, approximately 10.000 survivors of the 12th SS Panzer Division surrendered to the American 65th Infantry Division, 7th Army, near Enns in Austria.

 27th Infantry Regimental History 1901-1941
The regiment's first mission was to move to the Ussuri sector and operate with the 12th Division of the Japanese Army under the command of LTG Oi.
(The regiment would again reestablish their relationship with the 12th Division when the 1st Battalion trained with the 12th Division's 30th Regiment during "Orient Shield 94".) From late August to early November, 1918 the regiment helped secure the Trans Siberian Railroad from Vladivostok north to Khabarovsk.
The 27th Regiment was relieved from the Hawaiian Division and assigned to the 25th Division on 26 August 1941.
