This is the organization of the Corps and Divisions during the fall of 1944.
Unlike the US divisions, the British Reigment was identified only by its name-- not a number-- and the battalions of a regiment did not serve in the same division.
It was primarily consisted of the 3rd Carpthian Rifle Brigade of the 3rd Carpthian Division and the 4th Wolyn Infantry Brigade of the 5th Frontier Infantry Division.

British tactics, little changed from the Crimea, used at Modder River, Magersfontein, Colenso and Spion Kop were incapable of winning battles against entrenched troops armed with modern magazine rifles.
The British artillery was a powerful force in the field, underused by commanders with little training in the use of modern guns in battle.
The battalions of the Fourth Brigade, comprising 1st Durham Light Infantry, 3rd King’s Royal Rifles,1st Rifle Brigade and 2nd Scottish Rifles (the old 90th Regiment), with the 2nd Devons from Hildyard’s brigade, scaled Val Krantz driving the Boers from the lower slopes of the hill and coming under heavy fire from the surrounding higher positions.

The division alerted Combat Command C (CCC), which was then moving towards Sidi Bou Zid, for participation in the operation, but instead it was diverted to the Maizila Pass in the south.
The division's celebration in the Italian capital was short-lived, as VI Corps directed General Harmon to lead his division north to capture the airfield at Viterbo.
The division lost approximately 2500 men in the reorganization, as the 1st and 13th Armored Regiments and the 6th Armored Infantry converted to battalion structures.

The 1st Division went to British East Africa for the invasion of Italian East Africa with the understanding that South African troops would not be deployed north of the Equator.
During the Gazala battles, 1st South African Division stood along the perimeter line with 1st, 2nd and 3rd Brigades (3rd having been re-assigned from 2nd Division, to replace the lost 5th).
The South Africans felt that 5th Brigade was needlessly exposed at Sidi Rezegh because it was operating with the British 7th Armoured Division instead of under South African command.

 Battle of Modder River - The Boer War
Winner: The British suffered heavier casualties but the Boers were forced to withdraw from their positions on the Modder River.
Sir Alfred Milner, the British High Commissioner of Cape Colony, saw his plans to annex the two Boer Republic in ruins with the added danger of a revolt in his own colony by Boers in sympathy with their cousins in the republics.
Part of Pole-Carew’s 9th Brigade, 1st North Lancashire Regiment and 1st Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, inched forward; the infantry attack supported by the fire of the 62nd Battery, Royal Field Artillery, and finally rushed the ford, pushing the Free Staters back across the river.

 1st Armored Division
Armored Division in the breakout from the Anzio beachhead in May, 1944 got a certain amount of consolation out of the fact that they were captured by "a veteran division", as they put it.
The division's three armored artillery battalions and the tank destroyer battalion, all of which had been firing in support of Fifth Army troops since November 25, were attached to the task force to aid the actual assault on the mountain by the 6th Armored Infantry Regiment.
The two armored regiments were reformed into three separate tank battalions, the 1st, 4th and 13th; the infantry regiment was split into three separate battalions, the 6th, 11th and 14th, and nor changes in personnel and equipment were effected in the artillery, reconnaissance, tank destroyer, engineer, medical and ordnance battalions.

The other division at Petersburg was with the IX Corps and it fought in the Battle of the Crater, July 30, 1864.

 1st Field Squadron History
Again 1st Field Squadron was reformed, in time to play its part in the battles of Alam Halfa and El Alamein and accompanied the 8th Army advance along the whole of the North African shore to the Cap Bon Peninsula in Tunisia.
At the end of 1944, 1st Field Squadron was reorganised as an Assault Squadron, retitled to 1st Armoured Engineer Squadron, and took part with 2nd Armoured Regiment RE in the final offensive in Northern Italy.
1st Field Squadron, as part of the King's Royal Hussars Battle group, played a major role in the construction of the Brazda refugee camp, the entry into Kosovo, and later was the forward engineer squadron based at Podujevo.

The first British units to arrive at Pusan on 28 August 1950 were the 1st Battalion The Middlesex Regiment and 1st Battalion The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders under the 27th British Infantry Brigade.
The 29th British Infantry Brigade Group arrived in September 1950, followed by the 28th Commonwealth Brigade Group in April 1951, which replaced the 27th, and then the 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade Group.

The British 7th Armoured Division is one of the most famous formations that ever served in the British Army.
The 1st RTR had already served in the desert before, in 1936, so they had already built up considerable desert experience, but undoubtedly the most experienced unit in either the British or Italian armies was the 11th (Prince Albert's Own) Hussars - "The Cherry Pickers".
