  The Battle of Alma - The Crimean War
The burning village of Bourliouk caused considerable difficulty, the brigades of the 2nd Division being forced to bypass the village on either side to reach the river.
The British infantry advanced to the river and began to cross, finding the water to be fordable at almost every point (it is not clear whether this fact had been discovered before the battle).
British gun batteries crossed the bridge beyond Bourliouk and bombarded the Russian regiments on Telegraph Hill.

 2nd Infantry Division NZEF WW2
The remnants of the 2nd NZ Div (of course aided by their ANZAC cousins) prepared to defend the island of Crete from the expected German air/sea assault, of course without any of their own support from the air or sea.
After the Cretian defeat, the 2nd NZ division was reunited in Egypt and attached to the British, 8th Army in November.
Early in 1944 the Division moved in great secrecy across to the Monte Cassino area, where it was engaged in a couple of fruitless offensives.

 Battle of Inkerman, 5 November 1854
The British knew it as Mount Inkerman (and by the Russians as Cossack Mountain) and was bordered to the west by the Careenage Ravine and to the east by the Sapoune Ridge.
The 2nd Division were to busy to undertake this work themselves, and apart from some improvement to the positions around Home Ridge, little was done despite increasing urgent reports from spies, deserters and even official sources in St Petersburg that an attack was imminent.
The commander of the 2nd Division, Pennefather, remarked, "I tell you, we gave 'em a hell of a towelling." The effects on the Russian Field Army were astounding with twenty-four of the fifty battalions ruined or out-of-action.

 2nd Infantry Division - Korean War history of 1953
The division's first anniversary in Korea, 31 July 1951, found the "Second to None" stabbing at enemy strong points well north of the 38th parallel while to the east in the vicinity of Kaesong, representatives of the United Nations and of the Communist forces were meeting to discuss the possibility of a truce.
While the division was moving back on line in July the Communists smashed at a key UN outpost, "Old Baldy." Monsoonal rains fell during the next two weeks but elements of the 23d Regiment recaptured the important crest on the night of 31 July-i August 1952.
First unit of the 2d Division to arrive in Korea, the men of the 9th added to the fighting history of their unit in the defense of the Naktong River, the breakout and offensive northward until withdrawal at Kunu-ri became necessary due to the intervention of Chinese communist forces.
