32nd Division in WWII, part 11
The 32nd Division (less its 126th Infantry) was committed on the left of the 25th Division, and by 2 February it had crossed the Agno River and cleared the enemy from the Natividad-San Nicolas-Tayug triangle and captured Santa Maria.
As an interior division in the I Corps attack, the 32nd was largely limited to frontal attacks along routes which the enemy was well prepared to defend from dug in positions covered by mines, small arms fire, and bands of machine gun fire, and further supported by registered mortar and artillery fire.
The 32nd was to be withdrawn from Villa Verde Trail as soon as the tactical situation permitted, and was later to relieve the 33rd Division in its zone of action.
