  1st Cavalry Division
The 1st Cavalry Brigade was at Aldershot, the 2nd Cavalry Brigade at Tidworth, the 3rd Cavlary Brigade was in Ireland and the 4th Cavalry Brigade was in London and the south east.
The Division was formed in August 1914 and went to France between 15 and 18 August 1914.
The 1st Cavalry Division served in France and Flanders until the Armistice.

Under the 10 division redesign from the Secretary of the Army, the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood cased its division colors and was reflagged as the 4th Infantry Division in December 1995.
Division teaming began in 1998 as a pilot program, pairing the 49th with the 1st Cavalry Division headquartered at Fort Hood, Texas, and California's 40th Mechanized Division with the Army's 4th Mechanized Division, also headquartered at Fort Hood.

The majority of the 4th Infantry Division reached central and southern Iraq by January of 2006 while a detachment of 350 4th ID support brigade troops were deployed earlier, in September of 2005, to coordinate the transfer of the division’s equipment.
The Division was thoroughly involved in the training, testing, and evaluation of 72 initiatives to include the Division Capstone Exercise (DCX) I held at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California in April 2001, and culminating in the DCX II held at Fort Hood in October 2001.
The transformation of the 4th Infantry Division from a "legacy" division to a "modular" configuration is in tune with the dramatic changes being felt throughout the Army as it carries through and adopts its strategic vision for the future.

It was reassigned to the 25th Division on 1 February 1963 and reorganized and redesignated as the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry on 12 August 1963.

Upon reaching Vietnam in September 1965, the 1st Cavalry Division began the construction of a massive firebase in the Central Highlands region of the Republic of Vietnam.
According to Donna Everett, the curator for Armor and Cavalry lineages and honors at the Center of Military History, the specific reasons for making 1-7 Cav the division cavalry squadron was not known, but it was in response to a specific request by an unnamed general officer.
As part of this preparation, 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry, (division cavalry squadron for the 2nd Armored Division) which was slated for inactivation, detached its A and B Troops to provide fillers and vehicles for 1-7 in mid-September.

On 1 June 1966, it reorganized at Fort Benning, Georgia as an armored cavalry troop and redeployed to Vietnam 13 December 1966 as an element of the 199th Infantry Brigade.
On 15 December 1971, it reactivated in Vietnam as a separate air cavalry troop using assets of D Troop, 3rd Squadron, 5th cavalry (9th infantry division).
The unit was redesignated to the 4th Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry regiment on 15 January 1994.

 The Battle of Talavera in The Peninsular war
The British rifle battalions (60th and 95th Rifles) carried the Baker rifle, a more accurate weapon but slower to fire, and a sword bayonet.
Winner: Both sides claimed a victory, the British on the basis that all the French attacks had been decisively repelled, with French guns captured, and the French on the basis that the British were finally forced to retreat from the Talavera position, leaving their wounded in French hands.
