The Council of the Corporation consisted of 21 ordinary members, six of whom were appointed by the British Bankers’ Association, six by the London Chamber of Commerce, and nine co-opted by the Council as a whole.
The British Bankers' Association archive also includes records of a number of other organisations including the London Clearing House, later known as the Bankers' Clearing House Limited, and the Committee of London Clearing Bankers which oversaw it.
The archive of the British Bankers’ Association is a valuable addition to Guildhall Library’s holdings which also include the archives of the Council of Foreign Bondholders, the Accepting Houses Committee, the Issuing Houses Association, the London Stock Exchange, the Institute of Bankers and a number of merchant banks.

During the past year, UK banks have been in close contact with the British Department of Trade and Industry and have maintained dialogue with non-governmental organisations as part of the effort to identify assets in the UK relating to accounts controlled by the Government under TWEA.

The British Bankers’ Association (BBA) opposes proposals published by the Accounting Standards Board (ASB) recommending that banks should use market values for measuring all financial assets and liabilities in their annual accounts.
The ASB consultation paper is due to be published on Thursday, 14 December and would result in banks having to make radical changes to the way in which they value their loan portfolios and customer deposits in their annual accounts.

In spite of bleak forecasts for the retail sector, nearly half of us are likely to overspend at Christmas according to a new MORI poll conducted for the British Bankers' Association (BBA).
Perhaps surprisingly, people in the most affluent region, Greater London and the South East are the most disciplined when it comes to sticking to their planned budgets (55%), while 55% of northerners expect to spend more than planned.

Latest statistics revealed by the British Bankers' Association show a rising trend in mortgage lending which reflects climbing house prices.
According to the British Bankers' Association (BBA), gross mortgage lending for August 2006 reached a record GBP20.9 billion, some 9% higher than July, and 24% higher than the GBP16.8 billion for August 2005.
The BBA also revealed that there were 184,557 mortgage approvals (for all purposes) in August, with an aggregate value of GBP19.1 billion.
