The corporation has long been accused of an anti-American bias; in January 2004 after the publication of the Hutton Report, an attack on the BBC on US cable news channel Fox News by presenter John Gibson accused it of having "a frothing-at-the-mouth anti-Americanism that was obsessive, irrational and dishonest".
Despite criticising failures of the BBC's editorial policy, management, the Director-General and the Governors, the report was branded a whitewash by some for failing to address the issue of the validity of claims made by the government within the dossier.
BBC Radio 5 was launched on 27 August 1990 as a home for sport and children's programming, and was later renamed BBC Radio Five Live when it became a dedicated news and sport network.
