In the ensuing January 23, 2006 general election, the Liberals were defeated by the Conservatives, who emerged as the largest party in the House of Commons, although well short of an absolute majority.
However, amendments to the British North America Act, 1867 - the core of Canada's Constitution - still had to be made by an Act of the British Parliament, as the federal and provincial governments were unable to agree on a generally acceptable amending procedure.
As in the United Kingdom, the Crown is formally an integral part of Parliament, but the role of the monarch - since 1952, Queen Elizabeth II - and of her representative in Canada, the Governor General, is primarily ceremonial.

When Columbia spokesmen hinted that all of Columbia stood behind Eisenhower, Ackerman loudly proclaimed that he supported the general’s opponent, Adlai E. Stevenson — this from a man whose politics had apparently always been to the right of Stevenson’s, and Eisenhower’s, for that matter.
And to his successors, the one-year graduate program remained a rock in the middle of a stream, an obstacle to be dealt with, tinkered with, reshaped, and incrementally improved into something resembling a challenging graduate education; and never, in the 20th century at least, was it entirely overcome.

Voters in the general election approve a referendum providing a mechanism to recall sitting Members and to bring citizen initiatives before the Legislature or to province-wide referendum.
The next provincial general election is to be held on May 17, 2005.
British Columbia voters vote on two separate ballots at the May 17, 2005 election; one to choose their elected representatives in the Legislature, the other to decide whether or not the province should adopt the BC-STV electoral system as recommended by the Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform.

The next generalization, modeling missing data or, more generally, the process of data collection, generalizes the likelihood from p(ytheta) to p(y,Itheta,phi), where I represents the information of which data points are actually observed, and phi are parameters describing the design of the data-collection and recording process (Rubin, 1976).
In general, more complex models are better (see here, also with some interesting discussion), but a simpler model is less effort to set up and can be used as a starting point in a wide range of examples.
In general, I'm more in favor of students collecting their own data rather than using the web (see Section 11.4 of our book) but here they have to do a little work, what with the sampling and the content evaluation, so it seems that it could be reasonable.

Amended to 6 August 1952 for Atlin and Skeena.
The British Columbia Social Credit League nominated and supported the candidates (who were BCSCL members) but in assuming power the new government referred to itself as Social Credit.

In November 1942 Lieutenant General Eisenhower led the invasion of North Africa and the subsequent operations that, after hard fighting that produced vital combat experience for the as yet unseasoned Army, drove the Germans and Italians from the southern shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
Promoted to the rank of General early in 1943, Eisenhower commanded the invasions of Sicily in July and of the Italian mainland in September of that year.
Placed in charge of the forthcoming Allied invasion of France at the end of 1943, General Eisenhower was responsible for the massive Normandy operation in June 1944 and the dynamic, and frequently difficult, land campaign that ended with Germany's surrender eleven months later.
